Ok, I'll admit to everyone right now that I've never done a writing
contest like this before... hence the reason for this email. What are
the rules? If I understand correctly, everyone will be writing a story
with the same basic plot line, and using the same essential core
characters. Am I right? I mainly signed up because I thought it was a
good idea and I fancy myself a decent writer. That being said, he's an
idea or two to throw out there...

One of the White's gets dumped from the matrix by some heavy duty black
ice leftover in the system from before the takeover, or on a run outside
the SCIRE's matrix, shaking his belief in Deus, making him question
everything going on in the arcology. He might join the resistance,
giving them something of an inside lead on the Matrix mysteries behind
the shutdown.

ok, so only one idea. Doc's idea sounded pretty decent as well.

Here's the rules, as I understand them. There are two core plotlines.
ATM Doc' has proposed plotline 1) a Renraku or UCAS team inside the Arcology
(personally, I like the idea of Resistance people) and 2) A Shadowrunner
team who are sent inside to get a few people out. We all write stories
unrelated to these two plotlines, but which intersect in such a way that the
two main stories are plotted through the other stories. At least, that's
what it sounds like to me.

Hmm. Since I haven't read RA:S (and my local store wouldn't be able
to get it for me in time to contribute), I've been feeling rather
superflous. But, if we're doing a bunch of stories that in some way
connect to the runs of these two teams, perhaps I could write something
that occurs before said teams enter the arcology? Or is that too off-topic?

Okay, second thing. PLEASE send all ideas to me first, for tweaking.
Once we're sure they fit the basic outline, we'll send them to the

Interesting idea, though. One prob - the arcology Matrix, as far as I'm
aware, is still not connected to the rest of the Matrix.

Has this changed at all?

Secondly, it has to be a short story, so how would you go about fitting
something like that to a 20-25 page maximum length?

Btw, jeez, you guys talk a lot. Let me catch up, would ya? :)

In RA:S, in one of the posted asides, it mentioned that the SCIRE had
plenty of satellite access, and that it would be no problem for Deus to
hack out of it, IOW, let his otaku out into the world, but not let anyone
in.
<quote>
I've done some checking, and as far as I can tell, the majority of
Deus' otaku are inside the arc. There's maybe two dozen otaku still roving
around outside, but they're keeping a low profile
<snip>
As to how Deus communicates with them, it's simple. The arc may be cut
off from the Matrix, but there are numerous satellite dishes on the roof
and sides of the building, for an AI, it's a cakewalk to uplink, hack into
a sat and roam the Matrix from there. IT's closed itself off from us, but
we're not closed off from it. Remember that, and watch your backs.

Fair 'nuff.

Sorta - like I said, chronological order is fluid. Stories will APPEAR
in chronological order, but getting them to that stage will be the task
of the editors. The writers don't have to worry so much about
chronology. Apart from that, yes, that's pretty much right...except I'd
like to go for TWO central "themes", in the form of two different teams
penetrating the arcology.

> Sorry, in your post you had said these things should be sent directly

Story ideas go to me first. Ideas for the central plotlines go to the
list, as that's what we're discussing right now.

plenty of satellite access, and that it would be no problem for Deus to
hack out of it, IOW, let his otaku out into the world, but not let

Can you give me a page number? And as I understand this, while the
satellite uplinks are working, it's a two way street, correct? If Deus
wants to use an uplink to a satellite to access the Matrix, hostile
deckers can use the same uplink to access the arcology Matrix. If I
understand that correctly.

Okay, that helps - now the only concern with that idea is length -
seems to me that for a white to 'wake up' and go rogue would take quite
a long story.

and sides of the building, for an AI, it's a cakewalk to uplink, hack into
a sat and roam the Matrix from there. IT's closed itself off from us, but
we're not closed off from it. Remember that, and watch your backs.

Sounds like a good length to me. And sorry about talking so much.

Fair 'nuff.

there is one central theme, and we all write around it, but the stories
don't have to be in chronological order??

Sorta - like I said, chronological order is fluid. Stories will APPEAR
in chronological order, but getting them to that stage will be the task
of the editors. The writers don't have to worry so much about
chronology. Apart from that, yes, that's pretty much right...except I'd
like to go for TWO central "themes", in the form of two different teams
penetrating the arcology.

> Sorry, in your post you had said these things should be sent directly
to the list.... Or I might have misread it, but that's what it looked
like to me.

Story ideas go to me first. Ideas for the central plotlines go to the
list, as that's what we're discussing right now.

> In RA:S, in one of the posted asides, it mentioned that the SCIRE had
plenty of satellite access, and that it would be no problem for Deus to
hack out of it, IOW, let his otaku out into the world, but not let
anyone in.

Can you give me a page number? And as I understand this, while the
satellite uplinks are working, it's a two way street, correct? If Deus
wants to use an uplink to a satellite to access the Matrix, hostile
deckers can use the same uplink to access the arcology Matrix. If I
understand that correctly.

of Deus' otaku are inside the arc. There's maybe two dozen otaku still
roving around outside, but they're keeping a low profile <snip>
> As to how Deus communicates with them, it's simple. The arc may
be cut off from the Matrix, but there are numerous satellite dishes on
the roof and sides of the building, for an AI, it's a cakewalk to
uplink, hack into a sat and roam the Matrix from there. IT's closed
itself off from us, but we're not closed off from it. Remember that,
and watch your backs.

Okay, that helps - now the only concern with that idea is length -
seems to me that for a white to 'wake up' and go rogue would take quite
a long story.

> Sounds like a good length to me. And sorry about talking so much.

*sigh*

I HOPE that was a joke. :)
