Extensive cyberware implants and other events have brought my
campaign a little bit too close to the election date. Does
anybody have some ideas on what I can use to delay the election,
eg war, kidnappings, etc..

As a result of numerous events surrounding players, downtime, healing,
training, cybernetic implants and limb replacement, I have ended up with
a situation where the "official" timeline is 2057, my team are running
in 2062, simple solution, change the dates in the modules. rather than
muck around with delaying tactics, I have had elections in 2057, and
extended the FASA event timeline according to the players present
position. So they are still leading up to FASA's elections, albeit a
tad later. Ansolutely anything can be explained away by any number of
things. Shadowrun is so open ended that is an extremely versatile
universe, open to manipulation.

If you've been running the FASA timeline, and have tied yourself into a
know, then follow the election scenarios, but delay the actual election
due to media manipulation (a present day election problem) - or vote
rigging, or any other kind of corruption. Wars are a little drastic,
because you would have to carry that as part of the election storyline,
as is kidnapping, because you'd have to kidnap all the candidates, and
I'd hate to meet the guy who can can kidnap and hold a dragon.

It may be worth your while to consider merely extending the game
timeline, and running the elction to suit your players present location
in time. If you want to stay with FASA's timeline after this, then
obviously a few runs will be required in quick succession to cover it,
but at the risk of spoiling the game for some people, the Super Tuesday
and Shadows of the Underworld runs are fraggin' hard, and can easily
kill characters if the teams are not careful. Im the sad event of team
termination, it should be a relatively simple matter of rewinding the
game time back a few months to compensate, and giving the players
characters that are in a time prior to their last characters. This
does, of course, imply that the entire team has been geeked.

Good luck with solving the problem, but don't give up, it can be done.
