Hoi,

For all of those subscribers who receive the FOX television network,

1. How many of you watched the special on last night when the
excavated (sp) the rooms under the Sphinx?

2. What did you think of it?

3. Has anybody heard of anything about 2060 Egypt, mummies (akin to
ghouls or something), the Sphinx, pyramids, or any other ancient
mega-lithic structure, or any Paranormal animal descending from some
Egyption legend?

Intrigued,

--Fin

I added Jackalmen from ED era Creana, but have never taken a team to Egypt.
This coincided with me adding Nethermancers of a sort, so that a small group
of Jackalmen Nethermancers are spread around the globe fighting the Ordo
Maximus.

notice the rather short one for a new movie called MATRIX...

Wish it could have been less staged. Was a let-down.

Heard anything official? No. Thought about it? Yes. Think of this: The gods
all had animal heads (for the most part, as far as I know, I'm not an
Egyptologist)...Shamanic masks? They performed tremendous feats that we
aren't sure how (see above disclaimer). The pyramid at Giza was the largest
structure for 4000+ years (according to the show last night). Magic,
perhaps?

Thing about those old civilizations is we don't know everything, so it
leaves a lot open to speculation. If I remember all the dates right, that
civ might have come around towards the latter end of the last magically
active cycle.

Mummies are dead people, ghouls are humans infected with some
kinda virus. So this won't work, I think

Actually, yes, there is a conclusional reference that exists currently in SR.
PLEASE DO NOT JOKE AT THE FOLLOWING! (well, no more than normal anyway)

There is a story in the older religions concerning Horus, Isis and Osiris
after the latter was defeated by Set (Seth pronunciation btw). I'm sure many
of you have heard the story, and involves the Egyptian "Resurrection"
mythologies as well.

Isis and Horus went about commanding the forces that be (the Wind Beings I
recall in one translation) to bring to them the remnants of their fallen
beloved/father-type. They did something (ranging from invoking the aid of
Thoth and others like Geb) that allowed for Osiris to "rise again". Please
note, it is after this time period that Orisiris is often described as having
a skin-tone change, like that of creamy-jade or lapis (draw your own
imaginations). Their changes and/or invocations allowed for Osiris to
transcend the waters of life/death and become it's "defining ruler" (taken
from the texts on display in Cairo IIRC).

To me folks, THAT is Cybermancy. Please note, *we* as players of Shadowrun
use the catch phrase "cyber-", while anyone else would use terms appropriate
to their own preferences. Basically, they reconstructed his physical body,
entreating it in such a way as to house his "ka" once more.

This to me would be like constructing a being, ally-like even to some extents,
giving it a shell (like a Golem or Zombie), invoking the spirit of the dead
(Ancestral Spirit/Ghosts???), and linchpinning the sum construct together,
creating a replication of the original being.

Oh yeah, without a doubt a consideration for Shadowrun's purposes. For the
real world? I'm sure there are other explanations for construction running
about.

The idea of "Shamanic Masks" is a very good one, and in many ways parallels
the same usage/concept put into place by the Native American forces and their
"totemic masks".

Towards the end, yes.

They didn't show that commercial here. :(

Adding a little spoiler space in case anyone hasn't had a chance to
see it yet, and wants to watch it.

It was a big let down for me, and that's saying a lot since I was
expecting it to be bad to begin with. There were too many "First
times" that seemed to have been prepared. Especially finding Ka's
(sp?) mummy, the entrance was already opened, had a ladder in it, and
the wooden sarcophogus had already been opened and put back together!

Hmm..That's too bad..But it seemed quite short..so you may have
simply missed it..it was on one of the first few breaks..I did ike
the add for 'The Mummy'..That looks quite well done..

I too felt that some of the firsts were a bit contrived..but..found
it all worth waiting through for Osiris' Tomb..That was way cool..And
immediately sparked all kinds of gaming ideas...
Although I could have done without the whole mars connection guy..

Dont ger FOX here but I thought I would throw in a few thoughts here

>2. What did you think of it?

The film has been in planning and production for a few years now ..
since the late 80s IIRC.
Others have replied and said it was "too staged" eyc. Well thank
goodness it was taged . Serious study of the worlds most important
monuments should not happen for a TV camera! We should be greatful
that the film has been released at all.

I refer you to Graeme Hancocks "Fingerprints of the Gods" and the
subsequents books about Guza. Both are back with SR ideas regarding
the cycle of magic. He reclons a "First Time" or Golden Age ended
about
10 000 years ago when they planned the Pyramids and what not. He has
some great theories that are well worth reading and thinking about.
Human civilisation IS a whole lot older than we think it is.

Cant say I've seen any FASA material about Egypt. Mummies are 4th
Dynasty kings wraped in linen. They are not going anywhere , dont
worry. SR type missions around Egypt would centre on uncovering
Ancient wisdom or discovering lost tombs. I would think that a lot of
Spirit activity would be evident, as the Egyptians were definetly into
that.

Steer clear of Awakened Crocodile beats and Shambling Ramses IV Mummy
critters or you'll look like a Palladium games fan.

K, I love the Osiris - Cybermancy link .... cool idea.
