I have written these two totems up my self.
Buffalo:
Enviroment:prarie
Adv:+1d to combat, healing, and detection spells,+2d for summoning prarie
spirits.
character:Noble,truth-ful,powerful, strong.These words describe buffalo
best.He is straight forward to the point of being blunt in his speech. He
finds comfort in numbers, and when scared will panic immediately.
Dis-adv:-2d for illusion spells.Must have a body and strength of at
least 4 at char. creation. When scared in the slightest he will panic and
run.

Rattle-Snake
Enviroment:desert anfd mountains.
Adv. :+2d for combat and illusion spells.+2d for conjuring Desert or
mountain spirits(Spirit type chosen at Char creation).+2d for creating
unique,low-damage spells.
Character: Rattle-Snake is Sly, deceptive,and dangerous.He has a biting
wit, and wil hit you with a custom spell Just to see the expression on
your face. When he gives you his word he will never go back on
it.Ever.When you've become his friend your his brother for life. Also he
has a,um,'Unique' sense of humor.
Disadvantages:Rattlesnake shamans cannot have a quickness below 3.never
nows when not to say the wrong thing.Let me explain.A rattlesnake
shaman will tell one of his off beat jokes or cast a spell which will
cause an off beat effect(any thing from causing a snake to appear and
start conversing with the shaman,to casting a spell that causes the
target to get a pain in their ass like they were bit by a rattlesnake
:^)).Therefore a -1 to social tests applies here.

Interesting... the panic and run bit doesn't hold with the +1 to combat
spells though. Any sensible person gets a little scared when someone's
trying to kill them, so they'd panic, and never use the +1 to combat.

The last should probably be changed to a Will(x) test not to panic. How
one judges when a character gets scared is a bit of metagaming, so I
might suggest that it apply when the character fails a surprise test.

Given that Buffalo are herd animals, and stampede in large quantities, I
might suggest that the bonuses above be removed in place of a bonus when
doing Ritual sorcery with other Buffalo shaman (or shaman in general, as
that's a fairly limiting constraint).

I don't quite "get" Rattlesnake, so I'll reserve my opinion on that
totem to myself.

I admit, I snipped "Rattlesnake", but Buffalo has me chuckling. The actual
basis and general "theme" is really good. I just get a kick of the
combination of "Noble and Strong" with "Panic and Run"....

I have an idea Wyrmy, how about a Willpower test if a Buffalo Shaman is
confronted with a notably threatening situation. If s/he makes it, they'll
stand their ground, if they fail, they'll run. You could use the standard
"Target 4" for the test...

Oh really? go check out "Lion" again...the advantages/disadvantages thing on
that one has always had me confused. I gave a reply concerning "standing
one's ground" in another post. I think Wyrmy's got the idea right, though...

I understand, and remarkably, can see where Wyrmy may have gotten the idea.
The "Social Test" modifier he suggested (-1) is reversely written (remember,
in SR, -1 to target numbers is a *Good* thing ;). Personally, I think the
idea is okay, even if just a bit strange (that, and I just plain hate
snakes)...

Unfortunately these aren't "new" totems. White Wolf had a really good
version of it in issue #30(?) and Wigs has had a versio for a lot longer
than that. You might want to check out Dreamcatcher page he's got a lot of
really nice one too. Look at Paolo's for the link.
