I'll put in a spoiler for any players

A thought struck me the other day when reading Year of the comet:
What would happen during a solar eclipse, generally I think it will
mainly be an magical / astral effect.
Bugs erupting from unknown nests,
Background count changes
Darkness (hey we are shadowrunners)
People wanting to go and watch an eclipse in the amazon (etc) who need
bodyguards.
And many other things that will scare my/your players.

I've done a brief review of whats available: NASA have a load of stuff:
http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/
with a couple of lovely gifs:
http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEmap/ASENorAm2051.gif
http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/image/TSE97-20.gif

and a predictive program that I'm still looking at:
http://www2c.biglobe.ne.jp/~takesako/cal/emapwin_eng_1.21.htm

Additionally, I like rough room plans for basic properties, I've found
www.eplans.com useful for houses, but I'm still looking for retail/
research/ industrial buildings any one found any good ones?

Hope this helps someone

Hey, if anyone finds those I'd really like those passed along too please.
I've seen layout plans before like where I worked in Colorado but was never
able to find any online (and of course I didn't ask if I could copy the plans
cause they would have looked at me real funny and probably fired me as a
security risk or something! LOL!)

Many traditions place special meaning in the Sun and it's
eclipses. Aztec traditions are the first that come to my mind - some of
the more bloodthirsty sects would be doing a lot of sacrifices. Incas
(who were considerably different :)) also worshiped the sun (Inti) as
their main deity, but they didn't "feed" it with sacrifices.

Most hermetics are also big on astrology, so this can have a lot of
meaning to them.

Generally, it can be considered a Time of Power(TM), so you can
throw your players in a run involving your favorite magical group :).

all eclipses or only the eclipse wich can be seen ?
And if the second then the whole earth or only the place were the sun can'tb
seen ?
Personally I would go with only the place were the sun can't be seen.

Does someone know where the dates and places of the sun eclipses in the next
70 years can be found ?

The NASA site I posted ( http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/ ) has
lists with information upto 3000, and the gifs show the tracks of
individual tracks until 2050, and summary gifs of worldwide tracks upto
2020 and north American tracks until 2050.

The predictive program I've downloaded
http://www2c.biglobe.ne.jp/~takesako/cal/emapwin_eng_1.21.htm ) plots
each one in turn on the screen but doesn't print. They do state the
difference between the different types of eclipse (total/partial ) but
I've not read enough to gather the specifics yet. I would assume that
all eclipses (spelling?) would have some effect in the 6th world, but
you would have the largest under a total eclipse.

What would talismongering, conducting ritual magic, or finishing 28 days
of alchemy by the light of the suns corona have in your game?

A quick summary of the total eclipses 2050 - 2059 (judged by my eye from
program above and using Encarta atlas for place names):

30th March 2052, Mid Atlantic, north Florida (Jacksonville), northern
Bay of Mexico, Northern Mexico (Monterrey), Mid Pacific.

22nd Sept, 2052, Indonesia (Surabaia) Then between New Guinea and
Australia (passing over the tip of Cape York) and out over the pacific
islands ( passing over some of the islands...)

20th march 5053, South of Cape town, across Indian ocean, to Indonesia,
finishing in New Guinea.

12th September 2053, Mid Atlantic, Gibraltar, North Africa, Saudi
Arabia, South of India, Indonesia (Just short of Singapore)

24th July 2055, Mid South Atlantic, South Africa, south Indian ocean.

16th Jan, 2056, Eastern Pacific, Mid pacific, Baja California (La Paz),
Mexico, Texas (San Antonio (just))

12th July 2056, Eastern Pacific, mid pacific, Colombia (close to border
with Ecuador and then Peru) ending in Brazil (Interior, closest city
Manaus)

5th Jan 2057, Brazilian coast (Salvador), South Atlantic, South Indian
ocean, Ends before Indonesia.

1st July 2057 (my personal favourite), Northern China ( Urumqi, Gobi
desert), Mongolia, Siberia, arctic ocean (along permanent ice cap
limit), North Alaskan coast, North half of lakes Winnipeg, Superior and
Huron, stopping just short of Toronto.

26th Dec, 2057, Antarctica.

11th May 2059, South east Pacific, mid pacific, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia,
Brazil, finishing between San Luis and Brasilia.

5 November 2059, Bay of Biscay, France, Spain, Sardinia, Libya, Egypt,
Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Somalia, Indian ocean, Indonesia (Medan)

I've just realised that I've been describing most of these going from
the west to the east, they may actually go the other direction (I'm a
Chemest not an Astromoner)

And I'm a little annoyed that my game has just gone from May 2057 to
August 2057 based in Seattle without me mentioning the eclipse in July,
I think it will have to be saved for 2058 in my campaign (In my game,
the sun and the moon do whatever I consider reasonable for my plot :-)

P.S I'll post 2060 to 2065 tomorrow night if I have time...

Depending on where you are on the world, the eclipse you see can
be either partial or total. In the 2060's, really dedicated magicians
will want to travel to those places where a total eclipse will be seen :).
