The GRaser is a gamma ray emmiter, but I should have said I don't think it
has a place in typical shadowrun games. The problem being that A) They
aren't dramatic weapons, using it against a soft target would be similiar
to watching hotdogs in the microwave, a little whurr and a bad smell at
first then it explodes. B) There's no realistic armor that can stop the
beam, I think they use a lead wall several meters thick to stop these
things, although it's available it's not something that you hang from a
skyscraper or cover a tank with C) power consumption probably exceeds that
of lasers (sidenote: the only natural source of GR, that I'm aware of are
stars, and supernovas at that,I could be wrong though, it's been awhile.)
As for advanced weaponry that deviates from kinetic slug throwers and
remains deadly, look at ultrasonics, gyrojets, minirails/coilguns. Ok so
railguns and coilguns are the definition of slug throwers but it varies a
great deal from what John Wayne used to settle his problems.
I am really suprised that FASA avoided the Gyrojet, even without smart
bullets, it's increased range and higher damage, with explosive heads,
makes it a formidable weapon that could easily be balanced through price
and availability. Sort of the supersniper weapon, range 4km damage 12S.
Unless they were trying to avoid problems with TSR since that company used
them in Star Frontiers (anybody remember playing that one?)
