I was just wondering if anyone had a chance to pick up and read my book,
Dead Air. It's my first published novel, though the second I've written for
FASA. The first is an Earthdawn book called Liferock which will hopefully be
out next year.

Anyhow, I welcome any feedback. Especially, since I'm working on a trilogy
now which delves into the assassination of Dunkelzahn and some of the
characters and plots surrounding the fallout. Obviously, the trilogy (which
is called The Dragon Heart Saga) is unrelated to Dead Air, except they share
the Shadowrun universe, but I think feedback is still valuable.

Thanks,

I look forward to reading it, Jak, as any literature about the Shadowrun
world expands and clarifies it for us mere mortals...:)

Haven't had a chance to pick it up yet, but plan too (I have every other
S/R book and novel to hit the shelves) and will be more than glad to
give you some feedback once I have it. Caric will probably be able to
offer some input too, since he reads every one of the novels I pick up
as well.

Now if we could just get Rookie reading some of 'em...

Hiya!
I just finished reading it last week. I really liked it. There were
alot of little twists with all of the groups on their own little runs.
This got confusing if you were reading late at night, but it was also
more intense reading. It was also nice to have a book that covered more
of the technical aspect, like with the drones and rigging. I think that
was fairly different as far as the other SR books go (I've read them
all.) I enjoyed it alot. IMHO, one of the better SR novels, at least in
the top 5 or so. If you have any specific questions on it, feel free to
write me.

Just picked the book up from the mall today. Will jump into it and let
you know what I think when I'm done.

As I said before, I pick up any and every S/R novel. Helps me flesh out
my universe and also get s better idea on how some of the mechanics
should me interpretted.

*groan*

There are days when I wish Seattle was a bit closer than a two hour ferry.
(Being on an island can really blow)
I talked to my fave bookstore today, and the book isn't due in for at
least another four weeks. Why is it that Canada is always behind the US
in book releases? We are bigger, after all... <G>

You know, I don't think our GM has ever read any of the books. (He's my
roomie, and I have over half of them. Go fig!)

Oh! I just remembered. He has the first printing of Into the Shadows.
(Unread, most likely:)

Well *grin*, I think you oughta be able to get plenty of ideas just from
watching the list try to figure out the significance of each bequest. :)

(BTW: The vote from here is Good Novel. :) )

Yeah, I walked into my gaming store, and for ten dollars (AUS) I could by
myself a magazine (White Dwarf) or a good SR book. Well I opted for the
book, and guess what. It was worth every cent. I really thought it was
cool. I liked, (as someone lese has said) the fact that it covered some
of the more technical aspects. Bravo to you for a good effort.

My one gripe (not serious) is that I had always played that rigging a bike
took up both of the riggers hands as he was only, at best, semi-concious.
Now I'll have to face my player's rigger's running around shooting from
the back of their bikes.

Is this series going to give any real hints as to what actually happened
to Dunkie, or are we still all going to be left guessing whether it was
horrors, Immortal Elves or some other, as yet unknown evil?

Ok, I have a comment about Dunk assasination. A few years ago FASA put out
a 4-6 page flyer with their new products for the year... I think it 92 or
93... Anyways, in the front was a two page story with Dunk and Harlequin.
Dunk wanted Harlequin to come on his show and tell the world about
*everything*. FASA was real vague at the time exactly what *everything*
was, and still are. Well, Harley told Dunk to go hop, and Dunk left. There
was some unamed elf with him, and he told her that he really liked Dunk, and
that it was going to be a real shame when the elves had to kill him...

Now, that definately gives Harlequin and the elves a certain credibility for
killing D, although it really doesn't sound that way in D's Secrets... FASA
will probably keep us guessing for quite some time...:)

Ah well, jus my thought... Don't know if wnyone remembered that or not...:)

OK, sorry pal, but that girl wasn't an elf. That's Jane "Frosty" Foster, and
the reason you don't know who she really is, is beacause we haven't
completely finished all of the Harlequin run. :-)
PLEASE don't tell Bull what's up with this!!

That story can be found in NAGEE 5 or 6; if you get both of them, you'll
have all three of the short stories.

The "unnamed elf" was Jane Foster, Ehran the Scribe's daughter (who
doesn't know he's her father) from the last two Harlequin adventures.

By far the best Shadowrun book I've read in a long time... Many thanks for
such a super effort... I had hung a lot of hopes on Mel Odoms book <I've
read everything else he's written and loved them> but alas his super-hero
charactors was a little to much to beleive....

Unfortunately, I'm 3/4 finished with the second book already. And the third
is already plotted. Worked most of the details out by February. Still,
it's fun watching all the guesswork going on.

Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on the book, both good and not so
good. <g>

As far as the Dragon Heart Saga trilogy goes... Many questions about the
assassination (and other things) will be answered, but a few may be raised.
Some things won't come in at all. The scope of Dunkelzahn's legacy is so
large that even a trilogy can't encompass it all.

Best,

The story is called Wyrm Talk. I have it posted on my page if you can't
find it somewhere else.

Anyways, the last couple of lines are this (referring the the Big D):

I closed the doors behind him as he left, and then turned, leaning back
against them. "It's too bad; I kind of like him." I said sadly.

"I do to," Harlequin said, looking back down at the papers "He's the
most reasonable of all of them. It'll be a shame when we have to destroy
him."

_PLEASE_ have some influence on either FASA or ROC (whoever is responsible) to
have the three books be published without long pauses in between - it's really
hard to get English or American books from my small Hometown in Germany, and
it would be _awful_ to have to wait that long for the following books!

Please!

Unfortunately the publishing schedule has already been determined. There
will be four months between each book. There will actually one novel (by
Mel Odom) in between the first and the second book, and another (by Lisa
Smedman) between my second and third. The main reason for this is that I
can't write a novel in two months, at least not one anybody would care to
read. <g> Four months is do-able and I think you'll be pleased with the
results.

My suggestion about getting them promptly would be to place an order with
FASA as soon as they have been assigned a product number. Note: they will
also be translated into German, but I have no idea how long it will take for
that to happen.

Jeff is my brother. He is still doing freelance work (both writing and
graphic design) for Steve Jackson Games, but has left full employment there.
He's doing full time web page design now.

One final note: I am going to be signing copies of Dead Air at my local
science fiction and fantasy bookstore, Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego, CA.
The event is at 3pm this Saturday, Sept 28th. If anybody on the list lives
in this area, please come. I'll be talking about Shadowrun, Dead Air, and
perhaps the trilogy. Also, if you can't come, but would like a signed copy
of the book, you can contact Mysterious Galaxy at Mgbooks@**.com or
http://www.mystgalaxy.com or 1-800-811-4747. If you don't give a flying
frag about the book or a signed copy, please ignore this post. ;p

Now back to writing...

Welp, Jak....
You've gone and done it. I just saw yer book in a local bookstore, and
I bought it, thinking I could start it, and read a few chapters, and go
to sleep. Dammit. <smirk> Now I can't go to bed 'till I've finished
it... It's gonna be a loooooong night. So far, I'm lovin' it.
Definitely a cut above many other novels based on RP products/settings.
Time to stop writing, and finish Dead Air......
Dammit. <smirk>

I hope in the end you weren't dissatisfied. (double negative for I hope it
kicked your butt) ;) I've stayed up verrry late reading many a good book,
and once in a while I get to the end and think, Why the hell did I wait up
for that crappy ending. Please don't tell me that was your experience with
Dead Air.

Best,

Just fyi, I really enjoyed Dead Air, and found it to be one of the
better SR novels (up there with Findley's novels).
