Hey, I can't agree more. And its not like FASA does not know of the problem.
The problem is how they treat the Matrix in the game and that won't change.
It's like playing a mage where astral space is entirely divorced from the
physical. More like the metaplanes. If your mage is off tromping through the
metaplanes then we're back to the decker problem where they are essentialy
playing another game set in the Shadowrun universe.
I don't know what to tell you, I know there were several plans to have
"quick resolution" systems for nonessential decking runs but that turned out
to be harder then imagined. And still doesn't solve the time needed for the
important runs. Best bet would be to play FAST. Deckers are supposed to be
reacting to the Matrix at ridiculously high speeds so make the players THINK
fast as well. Give them only 5 seconds to make a decision on what their
actions are, don't sit around describing the hosts architecture - who cares?
That still doesn't solve every problem, but imaginative use of the search
rules should help.
Simply put, if you can find an answer to this riddle clue us all in ;)
