Verjigorm is the Hunter of Great Dragons, as I'm guessing you know from
reading the basic rules. What he does, is capture dragons (those who don't
play ED, he's got stats and powers that make a great dragon look like a
house cat...) and put them into some sort of cocoon -- there's a very
nice picture on page 69 of the Horrors book. He wants to take over the
world, but unlike James Bond-style villains, Verjigorm actually has the
power to do so.

He hates dragons above everything else, so during the last Scourge (from
ED's perspective, that is) he captured *several hundred* of them,
including some great dragons. They now sit in astral cocoons at various
locations, where Verjigorm's powers alter the dragons' True Patterns to
remake them into a new race of Namegivers that can not only Name, but also
re-Name -- and thereby change the world and its inhabitants into
Verjigorm's ideals...

Oh... errrr... I haven't read the big D sourcebook yet, but my uneducated
guess yesterday was that he'd been kidnapped by Horrors... does this
theory become any more valid in light of this knowledge? :)

You're suggesting that Dunkelzahn got snatched by Verjigorm... sounds a
bit unlikely to me, seeing that the mana level in SR is too low to let
large numbers of Horrors through (one or two have come already, though),
and also Verjigorm apparently didn't appear during the Scourge that
immediately preceeds the ED game setting.

I would say not, but info in another post.
Given the descriptions of 'the event' in Dunks secrets, the 'death'
has Horror written all over it but thats far from proof that a Horror
actually did the deed, the visuals could have been faked quite easily
by the few things capable of taking out Dunklezhan with magic.

Vergigorm did not appear during the Scourge in the Fourth age. He can
however get through in one of the FASA adventures, having tried it
you would have to be pretty exceptional to stop him. We had some ED
PC's doing the best part of warp speed when that thing showed up! ok
it wasn't quite as fast as the time at SR when the helicopters with
miniguns (you hear choppers and an electric wine.. minigun?????)
showed up at the docks in DNA/DOA but you cannot beat 'dive for
cover!!!!!!' form everyone instantly. It is therefore very very
unlikely the things got through yet.

However in floks have been summoning him, yes you can do that, the
6th world really could be in deep drek.
