#TBH, most people I know also use Outlook, but this is mostly

I use Outlook because it does what I need it to do, while Thunderbird didn't
and neither did OE. I like having a Calendar and Address Book all-in-one. In
addition, my current job is tech support for a company which created a
plugin for Outlook to read RSS feeds.

This is the crux of the matter. Outlook is awful as an email program
(unless you're sending to another Outlook user), but we use it anyway
because of the other functions. The Calendar, the global address
book, the reminders, etc are all pretty important in a corporate
setting.

Outside of work, I (currently) use gmail exclusively, although I have
no actual favourite - over the years I've used them all.
