Subject: FASA 98 Catalog
Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 22:46:32 -0500
While I was at my local game store the other day, picking up Predator and
Prey, I noticed they had gotten the new FASA catalogs in. Here are the
new Shadowrun items listed:

#7215 Target: Smuggler Havens
Says it will iclude info on New Orleans, Vladivostock, and one other
location. Also will have info on the Voodoo War and other smuggling info.
Will also include ship construction rules and information on aqua-spheres.

#7216 New Seattle
Will cover how Seattle survived the Assasination, Mob war, and Corp war.
Basically updating Seattle to 2060

#7237 Blood in the Boardroom
Adventure set using the Mob War track system. Will cover the new shadow
war being fought among the Meagcorps. Mentions that some of the old Megas
will fall and some new ones will rise to that status.

#7238 Renraku Arcology: Shutdown
"The corporate war takes a disturbing turn when Renraku's huge Seattle
arcology shuts down, trapping 100,000 people inside. No one comes in, no
one comes out...and no one can access the place from the matrix. Who's
behind it, what do the want, and what's happening behind the arcology's
tinted glass walls and steel doors? Everyone wants what's inside, from
the return of family and friends to the secrets of a major megacorp.
Using the track system first seen in the adventure set Mob War!, players
decide who their runners work for and how they wish to encounter this
steel prison in the heart of Seattle."

What is voodoo war. There are not many sourcebooks I don't have but I
didn't see that anywhere... Is it a cyberpirates plot ?

Cool.

That seems fine and will need some modifications to suit different
campaigns but that seems good.

Heurk! That seems to be a new Chicago with it's close and no one knows why.
There are hidden secrets (reminds me of AD&D dungeons... Bad thought :( ).
I hope it will be better than what I expect...

Is there no news about SR3 ?

It's probably another one of those things that make you wish FASA would
bring out regular updates about what's going on in the world, instead of
only mentioning it in one book (look at Bug City and the novel Just
Compensation for a good example).

Not really. It came up after PoaD. Dunk left "a year worth of talon
clippings" to the head-hougan of the carib. Problem is, there is no
head-hougan. So those who are thier fight for the title of "head-hougan"
and the clippings. Just the thing you would want to throw your players
into. :)

Without reposting this part of the post, why did you feel it was necessary
to put in spoiler space? Is this Renraku Arcology thing is in their public
catalog, I really don't see how it needs a spoiler...unless you want to
annoy people that is.

I, for one, am stoked about it this adventure. Sounds like it could have
tremendous potential for mayhem! Unless it's done badly, in which case
it'll be another A$&$ dungeon...*bleurg!*

AFAIK, it's a 'theme' book, not an adventure.. but the concept is pretty
damn cool.

I thought it was supposed to be the "new" model adventure books, like Mob
War! and the new Predator vs. Prey. That sort of "outline" for an
adventure. Was there some kind of schedule in this catalog? Or a picture
of the cover for SR3 and this "R" book? I've found that if there isn't a
cover yet, it will likely be out towards the end of the calendar year; if
there's something, it'll be in our grubby little hands within 6 months.

BTW, does anyone have any thoughts on Predator vs. Prey? I have to say I
think it's kinda cool. Not spectacular, like HB, but still pretty good.
The first adventure could be outright scary if done right. And the middle
adventure is a great way to introduce Cyberpirates, not to mention fraggin'
over any goody-two-shoes runners in your group (*Vincent Prince evil GM
laugh*).

Why do the names "John McLain", "Roy Rogers", and "Hans
Gruber"
suddenly come to mind? :)
Seriously though, it sounds like a good adventure plot- providing
they give us that detailed map of the arcology us GMs have been longing
for these oh-so-many years. :)

I can... but why? Any discussion on this list regarding PoaD has
given away more spoilers than this thread. If you are going to keep
your PCs THIS sheltered, just lock them up in the dungeon... again. <g>

If history tells us anything FASA will probably keep it under tight
wraps until GenCon.

Quick Question:

PoaD? I'm having trouble figuring out what that acronym is.

And only one answer please.

I may be recall, but I seem to recall seeing something either on AOL or of
the FASA web site stating that GenCon is when they plan to unveil SR3.
Supposedly there are going to be some limited editions available ONLY at
GenCon.

Now if that's true, I may have to beg and bribe someone from here that IS
going (I'm not) to obtain one of those for me...I wonder what it would take...

Ah. For some reason, maybe it's the at-work brain drain, I couldn't think
of that. Quite an excellent sourcebook, I should say.

Repercussions from Black Madonna perhaps?

I would have preferred to learn about this "turning-point of the corp-war"
in the actual products, NOT in some ad. I mean now we know that 'raku takes
quite some beating (maybe it's even one of the corps that go down). I think
it's like writing who killed Dunky.
Then again, it's also FASA's fault.

Who says it's a turning point in the corp war? That, as far as I know, is
only a supposition by certain people on this list, myself included.

It could be totally unrelated; FASA decided this arcology thing they've
been playing with since the game came out (what, 89? 90?) was too good an
opportunity to not scrag it (heck, knowing how long FASA plans their
stories in advance, I would *not* be surprised to find out this was
something they've been working on since day one). I mean, you've got a
cool building/concept, why not use it to its full potential?

Maybe it has something to do with fixing the problems left over from Black
Madonna, like Steve's new book, Technobabel is supposed to do.

Then again, maybe the corp war story (Blood in the Boardroom, et al), Black
Madonna, Technobabel, and this Renraku arcology thing are interrelated and
really one big story line. That's just as possible, though trying to think
that possibility through makes my head hurt.

So I wouldn't worry too much right now. I'm guessing it won't be out until
late summer at best, and more likely not until Fall/Winter. Unless someone
has better intel?
