Howdy folks,

A member of my crew has developed a rather kick ass Excel sheet
for writing up characters - it does calculations for you, modifications,
calculates weight, equipment cost, etc

What we need now is to be sure FASA won't spank us if we make it
accessible to you deadbeats out there *grin*

Anyone have a point of contact in FASA legal or whoever we might
contact to expedite this?

It depends on if you are going to try and make money off it. If it is just a
free character sheet/ generator than there shouldn't be any legal negatives.
However if you Try to make a profit off of it then you will run into some
problems.

As there are plenty of character generators out there, FASA shouldn't have
a problem with it. The only thing they haven't like is when someone has
added an equipment database to a character creation program.

If your spreadsheet just handles the basic character creation rules then it
should be fine. If it also has full equipment/item/spell databases, then not.

So would that make the Interim Character Generator or the SRCG3 outside of
FASA's blessing? Because they have an extensive database on cyberware in
them, if I remember correctly. Or does it have to be detailed descriptions
that were directly taken from the book (incl. stats) before FASA goes
apeshit?

That's basically how it works. FASA seems to think that by itself the stats
themselves aren't very useful, but once you start reproducing the textual
information it becomes more serious. This doesn't ring true with some
previous things they've said, but what's gone is gone, I guess.

Umm guys, not to sound snarky, but I am not willing to work with the
conjecture - last thing this guy needs is a legal spanking. I am still
paying off 64k in college loans. :)

Anyone have a point of contact in FASA? I guess I should throttle
myself with a frozen carp for not looking at their website, but anything
with www in it gives me hives.

Keep in mind that FASA has yet to take legal action against anyone online,
and there's been more than a few blatant violations of their copyright. ;)

Try info@****.com, or shadowrun@****.com - I'd go with the former, myself.

I thought it was FASAInfo@***.com; when did it change?
