Er....I assume this means we won't see T:Matrix at Amazon.com anytime soon?

Actually, according to a friend of mine, Amazon is going bankrupt as well.

Yeah, but how does it affect this one product?

I don't know John... really. The Amazon situation probably has nothing to
do with in all honesty (based upon what I know so far at least).

According to DemonPenta@***.com, on Fri, 26 Jan 2001 the word on the street was...

Mike said they would be shipping outstanding orders, but not printing
anything new. I would guess that means that if Amazon already has T:M on
order, they should get it. Maybe :)

Amazon has been losing money since day 1, and it's part of their business
plan that they will continue to do so for many years until their business
model becomes profitable.

Amazon has been in its current state for awhile... they came out with the
idea that "if we come out, get as big as we can and make sure there is no
competition, we'll dominate the market and can make profits later"

The problem was, it didn't happen like that... other companies came in to
the market with the same idea... and though online buying was really good to
start, it eventually tapered off and went into a decline... people returned
to the book stores to buy books, rather than online (and it makes sense to
me... why wait 1 to 6 weeks for a book I know is probably going to be in the
Chapters down the street? And if its not there, I might find a different
book... either way, when I go to work tomorow, I'd have a new book to read)

Sure, for some people they don't have that option... but how much money can
a big company make online if their target market is in small rural areas?

So now they have the problem of nowhere to go... they can shut down and go
out of business, or they can keep plodding away and hope to turn things
around... since all the competition is in the same state, it might make
sense to see who can wether the storm longest and thusly come out ahead...
but since all the companies are doing the same thing, and B&N and Chapters
also have retail outlets to help them out financially... it wouldn't look
good for amazon in the long run.

And Amazon has a TON of money in cash reserves. They're not shutting down
soon, and they're getting closer and closer to profitability every
quarter. I suspect they'll get there this calendar year.

Ummm...the thing is, unless things have changed
drastically, they're only losing money ON PAPER. In
reality, the reason they seem to be losing money is
because they're pouring all their profits back into
expanding the company.

Now, this may have changed, of course. I haven't heard
anything as far as these bankruptcy rumours go, so I
can't comment there.
