Exactly... From what I've seen/heard/deduced, this deal was in the works
for at least a couple of months before it was initially announced. It was
possibly a mistake on the part of Decipher/FASA to announce everything
before most of the major details were worked out. Of course, maybe this
was an attempt at crowd control too. Who knows, maybe someone at one of
the companies slipped up and let some of the info out, and rather than
allow rumors to run rampant (We all know how the internet and the gaming
industry is with rumors :)). <shrug>

Oh, and that's minor possibilty, BTW... AFAIK, no one did that, so no
rumors! :]

I've read Dvixen's reply, and as of Tuesday this week last, the deal has not
been finalized. I have little to any specifics as to the state of things
however, and can't help out any more than that.

Searching through Decipher's site it said nothing in it's
announcements but reading through the Decipher Con reports they described
FASA as their new miniature wargame devision. Damn annoying.
Hasbro finalized buying WotC within a month of making their initial
announcement. Really damn annoying.

I can make a guess about Hasbro/WotC ... Hasbro moved into the whole deal
with a massive amount of cash flow, and no real concept of what a
role-playing games' production was like. I also bet that WotC (who still
hasn't paid off all of TSR's debt last I heard) and Hasbro are still working
over things as time goes on, but made that part of their agreement.

Besides, we all know that Hasbro just wanted stuff like M:TG and Pokemon for
their own purposes.

As for Decipher and FASA being their miniatures production ... that is an
interesting announcement to make on the web. I could see that perhaps slowly
things are merging then.

Speaking from experience, when a really big company (like Hasbro) buys
another company things move along fairly quickly (the speed at which things
change can actually be kind of frightening). However, when the purchasing
company is medium sized (like Decipher) or smaller, the sale usually
progresses pretty slowly (and it's usually aggravatingly slow for everyone
involved, not just customers).

My company is currently in a merger situation, they normally take much
longer than a month. I'm surprised the WotC deal took that little time.

The key phrase there was announcement. I have no idea how much was
done before the announcement was made.

Well... we had a bit of a flame war which caused some people to leave the
list. The damnest thing is that I can't remember what it was about,
though...

Well, Jacob Machinov and Bull had one of the big festive arguements,
regarding SR2 v. SR3, which can be found at
http://lists.html.com/pipermail/shadowrn/Week-of-Mon-19990913/thread.html#15
139. This resulted in Machinov being banned for a week and leaving, and Bull
leaving for a while, by his own volition, if I recall. Oh, and the offending
thread was, of course, shut down. Bull eventually returned, thankfully.

And IronRaven and myself had a real whiz-banger regarding mystisism, which
resulted in bans for both of us, after which he decided to leave and never
come back. Unfortunately, I decided to stay. This can be found around the
same time, at the same page.

Just thought you'd like to know someone was keeping score.
