Sorry, my fault. I misquoted. The rule in the BBB, pg 46, in the
Resources paragraph, reads: "Only magicians receive force points..."
However, I just noticed that on the previous page Adepts are refered
to as "magicians with limited abilities". So that debate we had
awhile back as to whether or not Adepts get force points has just
been answered (yes, IMO).

And to further add to that old arguement, I found a passage in the
Companion in the section about gradual initiation, that states that
as an optional rule, GM's may not want to allow their players to use
force points for initiation, which implies to me that under normal
conditions, you can.

I don't think I would just blanket forbid it. It depends on the
player, and even more so on the campaign your running. Initiation is
not that powerful for a starting character if you use the various
gradual initiation rules that are out there. You could also force
them to have to use a group (no self-initiation) which could cost
them nuyen, and will most certainly require an ordeal. (Geasa and
ascetism are good ones to use for starting players).

Oh, I agree, and can see where in some cam[aigns it could be allowed, but I
feel VERY strongly against allowing it as a standard bit of chargen...
Otherwise too many players will want to do it.

Besides, i tend to run a starting campign fairly low power, so initaites
don;t really fit,m though I like to build as time goes on...

(Hell, my next plots involve revealing that they're working for a dragon on
their current run, they were assigned to kidnap a young dragon (Though they
didn;t know it at the time), stop a mad scientist from blowing up Seattle
with a Nuclear Bobmb, and THEN I start the fun stuff... Bugs! :]

To be honest, I treat it like the million nuyen samurai, or the physad
who starts off with the mageblade -- it just requires tilting the
character too far out of balance. Even a standard "Grade 0" initiation
- and God help you if you decide to let the beginning character start
off intiated in a mage group - well, it's 18 out of (SRC) 30 force
points, much less if you use Big Black. In other words, you know your
three or four spells -- and you /still/ got Initiated somehow?

One requirement more of my NPC mage groups have is that the power have a
dozen or so spells, just to push Initation back even further; one
specifically requires initiates to have designed their own spells.
