So you want to cast an illusion spell on the moon, eh. . .

Well, some say you can't, some say you can. Depends on much.

I say: No, don't bother with the NAGEE article. Hearsay (or heresay, better
yet heresy).

Spells travel through Astral Space. The Question is, is Astral Space between
Earth and the Moon?

Astral Space is, theoretically, produced and maintained by life. All living
things have an aura. One theory holds that the Planet Earth itself has an
aura, which forms most of Astral Space.

There's no life on the moon. Unless you believe in Lovecraftian Moon Men,
the inhabitants described by Wells, or truly believe that the moon is made
of cheese (since cheese is cultured milk. really, try blasting Beethoven
at your milk. See what happens).

However, the Earth has some very definite and very strong effects on the
Earth. They're called tides. So you could argue that it's part of the
Terran biosystem and therefore CAN be affected by spells. Maybe there's
a thin corridor of astral space that connects to it. Perhaps it 'thins
out' as you leave Earth, so that it isn't possible for a mage to navigate
this corridor.

So, I say ask your GM. Though FASA will probably tell you you can't do it,
they may change their mind if they have an adventure or supplement for it.
Wouldn't be the first time they changed their minds.

Oh, don't forget to take into account area-of-effect, and the optional
distance/size mods in Grim2..

For the last f*cking time, you can't cast a spell at the moon because
there is no astral space between the two objects!! Read the
_Neo-Ancharcist's Guide to Real Life_. It has about the Gias sphere.
(sorry for spelling.) Just drop it!! And don't even ask about the sun!!

Hello there, boys and girls. This is something we need to talk about
today. Can you say _GM makes the call_? I knew you could!

Sorry to disagree with you, but this is a subject I feel strongly
about. The source material is a guideline. If the GM decides that it
works, it works. If the GM doesn't like it, they don't use it. I
myself would say no, or _NO_ to big flaming pumpkins on the moon.
Some might say yes. Remember, justr because you don't like it doesn't
mean that no one can do it. Each campaign is unique.
OK, that's all the sermon for today. Sorry about this little
soap-box lecture, but you need not be so vehement. I do think that
most of us agree with you, though.
As for the idea, well, if you make an illusion big enough, you
pass out from drain. Magic Attribute in meters radius is standard.
For Force/2 + 2 D drain you can have a phantasmal force spell that
does almost everything. But do you really want to take that kind of
drain for your illusion? If you make it bigger, well, you make it
harder to stay on your feet. You can do it, but it would take some
serious spell research.
Sounds good though. I might use Lonestar mages with illusions to
herd my runners. "you hear a helicopter nearby, and you can see a
spotlight searching the area.."

we bluff our way through. If that fails, we shoot anything that
moves, get what we want, and then shoot our way out."
"I didn't say it was a _good_ plan."

Gonzo, chill out. We are not running your game. We are not running FASA's
game. We are discussing the feasibility, in theoretical terms, of fantasy
powers used in a fantasy world to achieve a fantasy effect. I myself was
just offering a rationale for allowing it to happen; if you don't want it
to, fine, don't let your players do it. But please, chill.
