Note: And all this "we" stuff is b/c my husband is the GM, but I'm the
social organizer. :)
Our real problem is that our group is only 3 players plus GM. Our college
group (when we started this up) was up to 12 players at one point. Very
different structure of playing. We have 2 characters from the old campaign,
and one fairly new one. BTW, that's one of the things I like about SR:
characters at different karma levels can still play together without it
being too unbalanced. Anyway, the 4 of us are two couples - so we lose 2
players if something comes up. Also, there's 2 other games (D&D) going on
with the same circle of friends. It bugs the heck out of me, b/c no one we
play with has any real "dedication" to gaming. I know it's "just a
hobby",
but it's my primary one (other than cross stitch, which I do *while* gaming
<g>).
Really, what we need is extra players, but the GM doesn't want to bring
"random strangers" into the game, b/c he thinks they'd feel it was a game
"for his wife". I try very hard not to munchkin/run roughshod, but my
primary character has been team lead for *years* now, so, yeah, that could
be a problem to some. Also, since I've been got one of the longest running
characters, she's got gobs of karma. I ought to retire her, but I feel she
still has play left in her.
Also we play a more "cinematic" style of game, which is a bit different than
most SR games.
We have 2 potential players (friends), though, but since our game isn't on a
regular schedule we've hesitated to bring them in, since I didn't think it
was fair to them. We're trying out a monthly schedule (each game a
different week, with a 4th week for mixed card & board games), though, and
we'll see what happens. I'm definitely eager for extra players, though, and
I think that would fix a lot of our problem.
