is anything of interest happening on this list as of late? I mean, if we
really wanted to, we could all talk endlessly about Lawnmower Man or
something :) (well, maybe not)

Anyone have any good stories to share?

What's going on? The only message I've gotten from this list in the last,
say, 24 hours was from a friend about the Germany Sourcebook and I SAW him
type it!

WHERE IS EVERYONE?!

(...and he walked outside later that morning to see a blasted grey
landscape, blanketed by an equally ashen sky. Off towards the southern
horizon, he guessed over Washington, fiery rain, the fallout of a recent
nuclear bombardment, fell in waves.
After a quiet moment, he said, only to himself, "Okay...so how come no
one from California's posted, huh? Who'd waste weapons on a wasteland?!"...)

Okay...a friend has shown us an ad in the most recent Dragon magazine for
the Germany Sourcebook's release.

Is it available here (U.S.)? Anyone spot it?

Where are you writing from, Nightstalker?

compell me to finally knuckle down to my German translations.;-P) News on a

I haven't received any mail from SHADOWRN or NERPS since about
3:00 AM EST (which is when I last checked my mail) -- its now past 7:00 PM
EST. Is the list still up?
I'm sending this to SHADOWRN@*****... cc: Robert Hayden's personal
address, just to make sure that if HEARN is down Rob hears about it.
But, if there aren't any problems and its just that nobody logs on
during the day on Sundays, just delete this message and continue with you

Well, if you have just joined, you should have received a letter about THe Most Frequently
Asked Questions about Shadowrun. If you haven't received it yet, you might want to
contact our 'Fearless Leader', Robert Hayden, at <hayden@*******.mankato.msus.edu>

Well, Scott, its cool that you're interested but the majority of
what goes on here requires at least a rudimentary knowledge of the game.
A lot of good ShadowRun info is avaliable via FTP from teetot.acusd.edu,
in the directory "pub/Beelzebub/Role-Playing/Shadowrun" (or else something
very close to that name.)
However, I highly suggest that you at least get a copy of the main
rulebook first.

did I reroute my mail. Are things just going REALLY slow or
something? Or is the list temporaily shutting down (???) Any insight

Hi! I'm comming back to the list after a looong break, but here's an interest-
ing charectar. It's a phsical adept, but with wired reflexs (3). This costs
only 5 essence, and gives a boosted reactions too, so you get a better deal,
because it leaves 1 point of magic to spend. Makes for interesting role-playing,
though.

From the listserv command "review shadowrn by country":
We've got:
One guy from Argentina;
nine Australians;
eleven Canadians;
three Danes;
two French;
fifteen Germans;
twelve Brits (with a couple of Scots and Welsh between them);
three Greeks;
two Hungarians;
one Italian (hey, Paolo, you're the only one left! :);
two Japanese;
one Korean;
four Dutch;
three guys from New Sealand (New Sealanders (sp?);
one Norwegian;
two South Africans (but one of them is saying he's Welsh... :);
two Swedes;
one hunderd and fifteen Americans;
four concealed dudes or dudettes (Is that you there lurking, Rye? :| );
and sixteen ???, mostly .NET adresses of which at least most of them
are American, a couple are Brits and one of them is Dutch (yep that's
me :)

Totaling to 209 members from nineteen countries.

So, that should take care of the "I'm from here or there" posts :)

Told you I'm a compulsory statistician :)

Hello, Don't let me destract you from your conversations but I would
like to introduce myself and throw a couple of questions for your
response. My name is Kenneth and I play Shadowrun. I GM Earthdawn but
that is another BB. I would like to know about the rigger book. I have
it and understand the most of it but why didn't they go further into
vehicle construction like they did into decking gear? Also, I would
like a clarification on a ruling. After modifying a vehicle and you
want to put hardpoints on it. I know it is based of body but is that
modified or unmodified body?
I have watched this E for a couple of days and I did enjoy some of the
conversations and topics. I particularily enjoyed the "cow scenarion".
That sounds like it could be hilarious. If anyone knows the answers to
this questions please let me know. Thank you.

it is based on the modified body BUT if you have not the right CF to put
the weapons you have not the space despite you have many hardpoints or
firmpoints available.

Beats me. I'm starting to think about buying that GURPS Vehicles book, the
second edition, when it comes out, oh, next spring, mainly because someone I
know keeps telling me that it could be used in SR :)

Modified Body, AFAIK, unless they tell you to otherwise (but don't take my
word for it -- someone might have made me unofficial guru (nominee, actually
:) but I tend to make spur-of-the-moment decisions when I'm not sure of the
exact rules...

I'm just dropping a line to say hello out there since I am new to the
list. I've been playing Shadowrun since it first came out in 1989 and am
still a die hard fan of it. I have one character who has survived from
my very first game. His name is Wrecker. He started out as the base
elven decker from first edition Shadowrun. Needless to say after six
almost seven years he is considerable badass. He only gets played in
special booyah death adventures now.

Anyway hello again. Any questions just post them.

This is a test....
List traffic is either WAAAYYY down, the list is Down, or I have been
unsubscribed.

If the third case happens to be correct, I'd appreciate someone
E-mailing me and telling me.
Thanx in advance.

Greetings,

I recieved your letter to the list, but have heard little else from
the other shadowrunners of late. Maybe everyone is getting ready for
school, or at least those that go to school? Others might just be
silent. Anyway just to let you know I got your letter, so you can't
be unsubscribed.

wanted to see if I am still on the list - 'which' command) and did get no reply!
Hope this is fixed soon...

Don't think you were unsubscribed, but the list seems to have broken down, I
did not even receive an answer from listproc@********.itribe.net :-(

That's what I thought until I got this message.
What's the story morning glory?

The Way of the Hero

In each truly heroic struggle there is a time of commitment.
A time when human energies fail, yet more is required . . . and more is given.
Few are equal to that task.
Often that effort ends in failure, for victory is not always for the brave.
But where a man might falter, these ones do not, not while life and spirit
endure.
Not until the last measure is given.
To transcend the man, become the hero.

Heya!

I don't think that everyone is getting ready for school. I think a lot =
of people got
unsubscribed when the server for this list went down last week.
I hope they will be back soon.

Thanks for answering my question. (if i have been unsubbed, i wouldn't
get any posts, correct?) I haven't been getting any list traffic either,
and any queries i have been sending to majordomo haven't bounced, or been
answered.

The night is silent, save the wail of the sirens in the distance. The
shadows move slightly as the man moves between buildings, all the
time looking around. Finally after what seems like an eternity the
man reachs his destination. Taking a deep breath he prepares himself.
A quick check of his cyberwares diagnostics reviels that all his well.

"It's now or never" he thinks as he unholsters his SMG. The smartgun
becomes active, its small red dot flashing in his vision, informing
him that there currently is no locked target. Taking another deep
breath the Sam starts his final approach.

The room is empty, a soliatary moth flutters around a single burning
lightbulb. Silence reins. Dust falls silently onto the couchs, stools
and chairs. The door slams open and a black clothed figure dives
through the door, rolling behind one of the couchs.

Popping up he surveys the room
"Hello" he asks.

Silence.

"Shit!" he thinks " and such a nice entrance to"
The sam wonders over to the fridge pulls out a beer and sits one of
the couchs, preharing to wait.

Suddenly, the door to a back bedroom bursts open, and a large ork wearing a
funny looking pointed conical hat colored in a ridiculous pink and purple
comes rushing out, followed by roughly about thirty other people.

"Surprise!" They all yell. "Happy birthday!"

A beatiful blond woman wheels in a large birthday cake covered in lit
candles and maneuvers it in front od Odd. She looks at him expectantly.

"Well?" She asks. "Make a wish and blow out your candles..."

And after he tentatively extinguishes the candles a wild haired dog shaman
jumps out of the cake wearing only a loincloth and casts his favorite spell
on the birthday boy.(see Loki's webpage under spells designed by Caric
you'll figure it out)

Whatever folks want to talk about :), just read the FAQ if you can as
some things have gone round time and time again to no avail.
Also be carefull if 'in character' this isn't very popular after
someone posted in character on their GM's account without warning and
successfully confused half the list as to what was going on.

General:
note recent warnings from administration, things are usually pretty
civil but after someone introduced a rather too good looking
flamethrower .sig, well.

And I'm the Tooth Fairy.... Don't tell me who you are. Be yourself and
sign your name the way you want it. And maybe change what it says in the
"From" line, since that's what mail programs will grab when some one mails
you back. That's how the Stainless Steel Rats, Dr. Dooms and Gurths are

I don't want to sound like I'm slamming the newbies, but could you (not
just Chris, but some of the others as well) please stick to a few
guidelines? Such as:

* quoting the text you're replying to (unless you have a valid excuse,
like a backward mailer that can't quote)
* only quoting the parts of a message you are replying to, instead of
quoting a whole message and adding a few lines at the end (see the FAQ for
Doctor Doom's lecture on quoting)
* sending questions like "Please take me off this list" to either the
listowner/administrator, or doing it yourself by sending an unsubscribe
message to the listserv software?

To quote ED-209: "Thank you for your cooperation" :)

Apart from that, welcome to the list.

What Tim means is that, if you want to be called Shadow Dragon on this
list, you should set your name in your mailer as "Shadwo Dragon" instead
of "Chris Miska". Do you think my real name is Gurth? (Paolo, don't dare
reply to this! :) Of course not, it's just that if I click on
File|Preferences|General Settings... I can type in the name I want my
mailer to display. I could call myself Jebediah, for example (that's a
joke from before your time, in case you're wondering).
Depending on your mailer, where and how you set the name varies, but it
should be possible.

That was because I was looking for Thomas Deeny's address and found it in
a saved mail from this list, hit Reply, and then forgot to change the
address... I'm more careful right now (I mean, I even noticed that you
have a reply-to field in your message header that would have made this a

oops, well it was long enough ago you're probably safe from those
that weren't on the list at the time.

Yeah, and you're on Pegasus mail V2.10 :), got 2.4 if i could be
bothered starting windows :)

This lots actually just a selection of the headers, i could have
replyed to the cc, field etc.

This is only going here as there has been so much discussion about
mailers recently.

Note the folks that send multi-part messages really don't help (the
last one i saw was a mistake that got appolgised for, very very easy
to hit the wrong key :) )

That's what I figured as well, plus from all those that don't really care
what anyone is called :) Anyway by the time the T-shirts come round again,
you're bound to see my name pop up... it has every time so far :)

I think I'll have to d/l a 32 bit version one of these days...

Yeah, but I have Reply-To and Sender checked as standard, since those are
are normally okay for replying to the list (and I always forget to set
them back if I change them :/ ). Unfortunately, Listserv doesn't override
individual Reply-Tos, so if anyone fails to see a message you're sure you
posted to the list, you may have accidentally sent it to the original
sender.

Hmm...you do KNOW this is not a chat room, eh? It's a mailing list...
most people check their mail once, maybe twice a day...

Okay, Wyrmy, word to the wise. Post useful stuff. This is not IRC, nor
is it ICQ... it's Email... and like real mail, carrying a conversation on
it is nearly impossible (not too mention ridiculous). So please, think it
through before you post. I can't remember who said it..but read your mail
before you send it... Think to yourself "Will the other members of this
list find this interresting?"... best way to go, IMHO...

No Wyrmy, you aren't the only one awake, but shortly you will be. I am
sending this to both RN so that Wyrmy and Durand can get the information, and
to the PBEM group, so that Chris can as well.

Updated variations on "the Mechanics" (which Mike (Airwisp) posted a while
back) are done, as is the rules for Humanity.

http://members.aol.com/hhackerh/mag/newmechs.htm for the Mechanics
http://members.aol.com/hhackerh/msc/humanity.htm for Humanity
attribute.

I got a counter on the intro page, so if you use the HHH Menu at the bottom of
either of these pages, you'll go there and we'll get things rolling. For some
reason (gosh, it's AOL, I wonder this one is) Netscape doesn't always load up
the backgrounds correctly. I played around on the Ivy Tech network friday a
bit with an old friend, so I figured some of it out. But not everything.

Give us some more feedback...thanks

Oh, I never get that. It only pops up when I first log on, and I always have
the message "You have new mail" when I log on....

Then I usually stay logged in for ages doing other things.
Like TIN, nutscrape, work, etc....

Hello everybody.
I've been away for a few months but now I'm back and hopefully
staying subscribed. Unfortunately I made a mistake and when I
cancelled one of my e-mail accounts it was the one with the ShadowRN
stuff.
Whoops.
Special hello's to anybody that remembers me and I look forward to
seeing what turns up on the list.

Hello all,

Just a quick post to say hi to everyone. I haven't been on ShadowRN for
several months and thought it was about time I came back. :) Hopefully
the signal to noise ratio has improved a bit since then. ;)

See you around,

Does *every one that matters* also hates all things Gates, or is that
just coincidence?

No it's just that everyone that matters uses silly programs to get their mail
because they are on crappy networks. I personally have no problem except for the
big bright light surrounding the text but I'm considerate enough of others to
know that they can't read html.....

As for me, well, I'm not the BullBot :], but welcome! One things and you'll do fine (I'm
stealing a_e's job)
1. Read the FAQ. That goes for all people new to the list. Simple tips like "Don't
post in
html" and "Respond after the post you are replying to" are listed there as
well as ALL SORT of
topics which could end up destroying life as we know it.

Don't mention it, a_e. We all need to take a break. I just thought I'd get a
jump on things. Plus I'd noticed that some things were being done that weren't
supposed to. It's too bad there's no way to force people to read the FAQ before
they can sign on. ;^P

Errrr... 72 character wrapping is another good one...
You're currently wrapping at around 100.

Which time? First it moved from hearn.nic.surfnet.nl (I typed that in
without thinking twice about it, even though it's been five years...) to
itribe.net, then to lists.html.com and finally to dumpshock.com.

Welcome back at any rate :) Hope you find the list as useful as back then,
and maybe see some familiar names...

Welcome aboard :)

Every now and then we get a little "spirited" (especially over guns and
ammo), but all in all this is one of the best mailing lists around. Within
a week you will know us well.

Unless you just happen to run in to one of those "silent weeks". Years ago
this list was busy, now it's a walk in the park (but still one of the best
walks).

What the hell, I'll get in on this too.

Welcome aboard (*shudder* never thought I'd say THAT off ship...)

For anything on water, come talk to me.
For most of the "BIG" guns (like Battleship big) and the water-based craft
that are attached to them, I'm you man.

Might as well put this whole Navy thing to good use by doing some SR
conversions...

Why bother, jump straight in with both feet; it's a much better way to get
to know everyone on the list.

Hello all, it's been awhile since ran Shadowrun (about
4 years), but the shadows have pulled me back. I'll
sit back watch the boards for awhile and see how you
all run things here.

Also My wife and I are looking for people that would
like to play in a new starting game in Oakely, Ca
(East Contra Coasta County area or better know as East
Bay Area). All are welcome

Thank you

Dwarves often have beards because many have allergies to things like plastic
and metal. They'd get a nasty shaving rash.

<Shudder at thought of overy hairy dwarven females.......>
So does that mean they wear gloves to use guns?
Having an allergy like that would really restrict someone in the sixth
world.

The post was mainly a test to see if the forum was up, but it could be true.
In the first edition all metahumans had an allergy, the second edition had
some metas with an allergy. I suppose they're becoming more stable as the
mana rises. However, a dwarf doesn't have to break out in a rash at the mere
touch of metal, it could be an almost unnoticeable allergy except when
they're doing things like scraping the more sensitive parts of their skin
with a sharp piece of it over and over.
