Yes, it's me again with my favourite spoil-GM's-day spell:
Leviate Person

In all the discussion about how avoid the ill-effects (in my eyes) I
forgot one main thing: How does it work anyway?
I don't mean the physical thing but only game mechanics. I don't have
the book here but it was something like (# successes * magic) in
meters a mage could fly. And then? Must the mage cast the spell again
with new successes and drain, or is s/he able to fly to meters every
round 'til s/he drops the spell.
We had a discussion in our gaming-group an there are several opinions
floating around. I would like to hear more from you. How do you handle
this spell in your game.
Thanx for your time, hope that's it for the Levitate spells
bye,
Stefan

It would have to be kinda sustained or it wouldnt be any good. I mean
a round is what 3-5 seconds? a non sustainable spell would have to be
cast every round :)

That's exactly the main problem we have. It's a sustained spell, but does
this mean that the mage can fly as long as he's sustaining = any distance
he likes or does it mean he flies (#successes * magic) meters max in
several combat rounds and stops then. This gives way to another question:
If the flying is done in several rounds, how much meters does he fly in
one round?
My current opinion is, that he flies successes*magic in one round while
sustaining the spell, but he has to make the drain check every round.
Another question: Is it possible for the mage to change direction during
flight or must he flie in a straight line?
bye,
Stefan

Levitate person spells should work in this manner, number of successes times
magic rating equals distance, you can move a number of meters equal to
force of spell per round, you can move any number of directions for a
total distance of the spell gave you by above formula, after that, you can
no longer move the person in this manner, therefore, you must cast the spell
again and again to use it for great distances. Of course this is just my
opinion, feel free to shoot me down...

My group has gotten tired of the old levitate person trick, so we've
got a spell called "personal gravity restiction." It's sort of like a fly
spell. Works great. I anchored mine onto a belt with the motor from a
night glider so that I have something like a grav belt. If your interested
in it, give Spellslinger a call.

We play it as the latter. Since it's Sustained, the magician can move that
distance every action. This is very much to the liking of our shaman, a
dwarf with Quickness 2 and Magic 12 :)

I'd say you can change direction as much as you like -- fly figure-8s and
everything :)
