In my campaign, I use a technical skill entitled "Mechanical Intrusion" for
such things as locks, safecracking, setting and defeating set traps, and all
the typical AD&D theif stuff. Players in my campaign quickly went out to learn
it after going on a run with all the best security and electronic gadgets only
to be stopped by a steel door with a deadbolt lock. It was very amusing:

Frustrated Player: "Well, I'll just shoot the damn Lock!"
GM: "Wow, those Master locks really can stay locked with a bullet hole through
them! Just like in the commercial!"
Frustrated Player: "I've got a grenade! That take down the door!"
GM: "AND it'll blow you to kingdom come with it."
Frustrated Player: "Anybody got a crowbar? A spare door? Anything?"

Ciao,
Jeff

GM: nope
FP: I got an idea, I'll take this neon sign and this CO2 fire
extingguisher, some twine, some bubble gum, and a swiss army knife and
take the door down.
GM: What?!?
FP: I watch MacGyver 2054.
GM: Oh, I see. (rolls dices) Hmm, the door explodes inwards, killing
the four trolls waiting to ambush you.
F: *grin*
