Just a late thought, but the phrase on the back of the Companion is
short and sweet:

Been there, run that.

Shouldn't that be "Been there, ran that"? (Thereby keeping the tenses
uniform)

'Ran' doesn't rhyme with 'done.' It's a nifty saying at the
expense of a little grammar.

Actually, the grammar is right, even though it looks funny. If you
wanted to make them complete sentences, it'd be: I've been there.
I've run that. "I been there" just doesn't work much like "I done/run
that" wouldn't, either (well.. ok, "run" could also be used in
present tense.. hehe.. wouldn't match the tense of "have been,"
though).

I make posts like this only because I don't know enough of SR to offer
anything to any of the other discussions..

Actually, there is no grammar bending. The implied phrase is "[I
have] been there, [I have} run that." This is correct English. If it
were not, you would also have to say "Been there, DID that."
The other phrasing implies "[I have] been there, [I have] ran that."
That is not correct English. The implied structure could be "[I have]
been
there, [and I] ran that.", but parallel clauses (even if just implied
classes) are generally better sounding.

okay, well, since we're picking over it, 'been there, run that' is in
correct form. proper english would be to say "I have" in front of both
of those clauses... "I been there" is not correct Inglish and so "I ran
that" would be changing verb tenses...

I thought they were all correcting ME ... :) All I did was try to make
sure the list shirt quote would be grammatically correct and I get a hail
of corrections about implied verbs ... :)

Naw, it was me they were after...you were correct, but accused
of being incorrect, I rose to your defense despite your incorrect
incorrectness, thereby being incorrect 'cause you were correct,
so they're correcting me.

I gotta sit down now....
