I think I have a compromise of sorts concerning Baby Numbers.

We figure out how much space, in characters, an individual has for
their name on the shirt. When list members are ordering shirts they
decided how they want their name to be listed. The rules are: name (or
allias) and address must be used, no foul language, no slander.

If everyone gets 50 characters then I could list my name as:

David Buehrer, BABY 42, dbuehrer@******.carl.org

Gurth might use

Gurth, Mr. Anonymous, gurth@******.nl

Bull might use

Steven "Bull" Ratcovitch, bull@*****.net

Everyone has space for name, address, and a little extra. Whether or not a
BABY # is included is up to the individual if that's what they want to use
their extra space for.

According to David Buehrer, at 8:33 on 8 Apr 99, the word on
the street was...

I think I'll throw my weight (not much, I know, Jett :) behind this. It
seems the best compromise between all kinds of conflicting ideas for what
should and shouldn't be in the name list, and will neatly avoid such
tricks as making a new email address to get what you want on the shirt...

Yeah, right, like I'd wear that on the back of a shirt :)

Now, without agreeing right out (it wouldn't be right to not want to
create some kind of new disagreement), I have to say that this sounds like
a reasonable idea. If it's your "own space" to put whatever you want on
it, then I guess (barring some more thinking on my part) I wouldn't
complain too hard and would probably enter the "re-thinking about buying a
shirt" phase rather than flat out "no."

Sure. _That_ doesn't look as silly :)

(And if the design doesn't get picked for the list shirt, I have an
alternative use for it...)

I too would like to throw in my support for this idea. :)

It's a good idea, however something that may be considered is this: What
happens if somebody wants something offensive to the sensibilities of the
other shirt owners on their 50 characters?

Read it again :) No foul language, no slander.

If someone slips something in edgewise and it's missed by the T-shirt
volunteer and the artist doing the design for the back of the T-shirt,
then I'm sure that the list members and the list Admins will address
the issue appropriately <EG>.
