I've got another question dealing with cyber eyes. If a metahuman, say a
troll, decided to get some form of cyber enhancement wouldn't he or she lose
his or her thermographic vision? Just a silly question that's bothered me
before. Thanks, MistrOrnge

This came up before; I think the answer was a yes.

Though, from a scientific standpoint, thermographic sight probably
wouldn't be in the natural eyes of something anyway. "Thermographic" or
heat-sensing, like that of pit-vipers, is done through heat-sensitive
pits in the skin, not any visual organ.
Why should trolls of whatever need thermographic sight? I'd think
low-light would be much better, for miving around at night... and if you
want to argue that they'd live underground in caves without any light,
then they'd better develop sonar or they would be bonkin' into walls.
But, if FASA decides it's thermo..."*ahem*, it's all done with magic."
Whatever.

Yes, she would.

This kinda bugged me too.. Its important as the TN mods are sometimes much
better for a natural system. If you subscribe to the theory that vison
enhancement is all magical, then it shouldn't matter, as you pay essence and
integrat the cyber into your magical aura. This seems reasonable, as a mage
with cyber replacement eyes can still assence (OK, maybe that isn't eye
dependant).
On the other hand, the race descriptions talk about "preponderence of rods
over cones" and other stuff, so if you yank out your god given metahuman retina
(say, cyber replacement), then you lose this natural system. Certain mods
would pose no problem- optical magnification, flare compensation for certain,
maybe retinal overlays like low light or thermo (which would almost never pose
a benifit except for orks and elves getting thermo). It comes down to a
series of judgement calls, so it is easier just to let metas keep thier
original systems (which is, i think, in fitting with FASA's npc descriptions).

The way we always handled it was: yes, the metahuman loses their respective
vision enchancement. However, if they wanted to purchase cyber versions of
their old vision ability (lowlight for elves, etc.), it wouldn't cost them any
additional essence.
