I don't suppose anyone else out there using ELM knows how to use the weedout
option in the elmrc file do you?

It'd be usefull, just to get rid of topics I'm not interested in and so
forth.....

(I've been trying to make it work now for a half our or more, with no
luck..... )

Thanks....

Ditto for Eudora. I'm not optimistic though; topics seem to crop up rapidly
and I don't know if I want to forever delete EVERY post that contains the
word 'movie'. Moreover threads that start on with a given topic seem to
mutate rapidly.... So far I have had better luck weeding out authors than
than topics.
Besides, this approach allowed me to set up a special 'Gurth' folder so I can
always read his first :) Terry

I don't know Eudora (I used to use a version that couldn't filter) but it
seems to me that if it can filter for authors' names, it should also be
able to filter subject lines in much the same way... Pegasus can do it
easily, though :)

You mean anyone actually _reads_ my posts? Wow! :)

Unfortunately weedout doesn't get rid of topics, just headers. Here's an
example of mine:

# enable the weedout list to be read?
weed = ON

# what headers I DON'T want to see, ever.
weedout = "Path:" "Return" "X-Sender:" "Date:"
"Cc:" "Lines:"
"Originator:" "Organization:" "X-Office-To:"
"X-Within-Url:" "Sender:"
"Precedence:" "Reply-To:" "Errors-To:"
"X-Listprocessor-Version:"
"X-Comment:" "*end-of-user-headers*"

And, as I run accross more offensive headers I just add them to the list.

Hope that helps.

Well, you can always do anything in straight Unix, so.... :)
That's what I've got setup now. All my listservs go to their respective
folders. Kinda nice actually.

I finally found the filter program....
The man file had nothing on it, and even the helpdesk didn't know about it,
but, after unearthing a file containing the elm guides....

AT LAST!!!

Thanks for mentioning the Filter program...
If you hadn't, I'd probably still be wrestling with weedout...

Useless no?

Procmail is a neat litle program as well. the UofW only
half-supports it (it's only there as long as someone at C&C bothers to
maintain it), but it works great. I've got it set up to send mail to
various folders, but I've seen people do filters on it, even set up their
mailbox into a web-readable file.....

Well, Gurth, I'd have the same situation except that _I_ refuse to spend the
time and paper required to print 400+ pages of SR material (not including
NERPS) for my players to use-OTOH, they're allowed to use _almost_ anything
in those books, so they probably are pretty appreciative of your efforts:)

What you need to do is trick one of your players into spending several
hours near a printer, so you can have a hardcopy of all the SR
net.sourcebooks that you can find :)

Ahhhhh, that too, but at school here, HP5Sis and 4MVs scattered around
the building making print outs a breeze. Works out rather well. :)

I actually printed out all of NAGEE, NERPS, and the Plastic Warriors stuff,
then took it over to copy shop to get it xeroxed onto double-sided paper.
The resulting bill was something over US$100, not to mention the original
cost in paper and toner to my laser printer. But it's *nice* to have that
stuff.

BTW, Gurth, did you ever come up with a system for converting CP2020 armor
to Shadowrun? Or are you converting Chromebook 4?

I tend to print it out double-sided straight away, it saves paper :)

I never did find a good, fool-proof system for converting armor. I tend to
use Ballistic and Impact ratings that I feel look right when compared to
the CP2020 Stopping Power. I have CB4, but I haven't converted anything
out of it yet (except for some of the bioware, that also appears in
Paranoid Animals because Talsorian seems to have scooped up Morninman's
bioware article. Now why can't FASA do that?).

I have an old article that I used for the basis of my SR armor system
if you are interested in it. It breaks armor down into what it's
made of and what it is (jacket, etc) to get armor values. Let me
know if you want me to post it.
