Just got back from Origins last night. I had the chance to talk to Mike as
well as attending the "What's up at FASA" seminar. The following things (as
well as others) came out of it.....

The vote is real.....Mike said that they have developed a storyline based
upon each of the candidates winning so they just pop in the appropriate
story after the vote is tallied.

They are trying to move away from the horrors and immortals in the products.
To quote Mike, "I hope I never see another immortal elf..."

There is a Shadowrun Companion in the works. It will clarify some rules,
provide a walkthrough of some sort for beginers and will provide materials
for running campaigns with something other than shadowrunners, ala Cyberpunk
2020. Oh yeah, there will be new ways to spend karma, too.

They are also looking to do a hot spots type sourcebook that hits key areas
around the world.

Riggers Black Book 2 is in the works.

That's all I can really remember right now. I'm burned out from doing Lunch
Money demos all weekend.

For those of you who are into card games...the Shadowrun Card Game is back
online. I think release was tentatively 1997 or 98.

Ooooh, that really makes me want to launch a tac nuke at Chicago, bugs or
not. If I have to see another card game, I'mgoing to scream. I was
quite proud that I played SR, one of the few companie that did not have a
card game, and now I must hang my head in shame. What's next, a
*#@%!*ing Warhammer 40K card game? Jesus, will the madness never stop.

There's also a BattleTech card game coming out in the autumn, courtesy of
WotC. I don't know if they'll be the ones doing the SR card game too, but
it won't be the first FASA-game-based CCG.

After getting burnt out on Magic: the Gathering with the new cade set every
other week I agree, BUT FASA is a company that must make a profit so I'm
really not suprised they jumped on the band wagon. Do what I do...find the
card game section of your game shops and then imagine them to be the table
that an IRS auditor is at...BINGO! That area of the store no longer exists :).

The one thing I still can't get over is that according to a friend of
mine...some of these card game players think of themselves as role-players.
Actually the only card game I see as having merit and have any desire to get
any of the cards is the Highlander on cause it is the first release of actual
material on that story line...oh well, I'll stop the bitchin' about cardgamers.

I try to pretend that Battletech doesn't exist ever since the much

Those might have been the Battletech Recognition Cards they cam out with
a few years ago (And they sold so well, or so I'm told:) or it might
have been that Heavy Gear Fighter card set from Ianus for Heavy Gear.

That's part of the Flash Points thing Mike M mentioned a while back. It'll
include Austin and the Panama Canal Zone, possibly places like the Yucatan
Peninsula and an update on Chicago, maybe something about Denver.
Basically, it should be the geographic version of Threats - places where
trouble may come from, where things could happen that would change the face

Actually, FASA scrapped the idea at least once that I know of. It's not
just a question of money, since the card game industry is extremely unkind
to any game that is not magic. They may just want to try something new.

Depends on the game and the player. I can see some merit in certain cases
for that argument.

Geez, you guys bitch more than the wargamers did when another fad started a
long time ago. They complained non stop about those role players not being
real gamers......

The SR card game is being done in house by FASA.

That's right, forgot that part, was jotting notes about the pirates book

GW already did the card game bit. They put out a set of cards for each of
their lines in a game that was amazingly like war. Other than being decent
painting guides, it was a worthless endevor on their part.

The RPG? I always just adapted SR rules to cover that. The MW rules were

This is not why I complain about card games. The reason I complain about
them is because I can't walk into a hobby shop without hearing averyone
talk about them. I'd refuse to patronize these stores that do, but
they're the only shops in town. If I could ignore them, it would be
fine. But I can't. They're everywhere. They sell them in _video_
stores down here, for gods sake. I can escape a crappy show or
commercial on TV by changing the channel, You cannot escape those damn cards.

At DragonCon last year, I wlaked into the "gaming room." This was a huge
ballroom with a balcony running around the rim. Of the forty os so
gaming groups in there, only two were doing anything besides cards! I
expected to see cards there, but not that many.

There's a set of "recognition cards" for BattleTech, that's been out for a
couple years now. I think all the cards do is give a picture of a 'Mech
and a short description, but they're not a game in themselves.

I've bout MW2 and I think we played it once... Most of the time, BT games
around here are just "throw down a mapsheet or two, grab a few record
sheets and counters, and blast each other to bits" time :)

One notable game involved both players taking a single Wasp each...

Well, card games are the big thing right now, but the shift back towards
roleplaying and war games has already started.

There's good reason for this. It's easier to pick up a card game in a room
full of strangers than to get an RPG going in the same room. Most of the
role playing occurs in the events or among friends at the con. I'm not
saying that it's good or right, but it is true.

Our group played it briefly, but our DM did a D&D crossover type thing
to make it more interesting, but wasn't my cup of tea.

If you want to play a game that will NEVER have a card game based after
it I would suggest you try Ars Magica (the 4th ed should be out by
October from Atlas games).

(Ars Magica use to belong to WW who then sold it to WotC and was about to
go to press when WotC cancelled all their RPGs to concentrate on cards.
Most Ars fans don't plan to buy any more cards ice rinks open in hell [or
six flags over Texas, I've yet to see a difference]).

I confess <hanging head in shame> that I do actually play one CCG...
GUARDIANS. Classic game. Half of the cards have BRILLIANT graphics and
the other half are riproaringly funny. For instance, attacking creatures
can be bribed with things to go away. Those things are Babes, Beer, and
Gold... there are creatures like the Energy Toad... Annoying Gnats In The
Hood... the Mad Idiot Fiend... c'mon, at least ONE CCG company has a
sense of humour.

Name of publisher and ISBN if any? My friends just dumped their spare Magic
cards on me and I need to get back at them somehow :)
