Really randomly off-topic, but a friend of mine brought this up, and I
thought it was interesting:

This merger might prove interesting(devestating?) for the Mechwarrior CG,
which is currently being produced by WOTC. What will happen to it now that
FASA is owned by a card game company?

Ok, I finally went and looked, and my take on all this is "wait and see".

1) all we have at this point is a letter of intent. Thats still a long way
from and actual buyout or merger. Many things could still go wrong.

2) If the merger does go through, Its still to early to say if it will be
good or bad for US. As various speculation has pointed out, they may just
worry about the money, and leave the development teams alone. This would be
best for us gamers, as it minimizes the disruption to us. Given the success
of the Shadowrun and Battletech product lines, I think it would be in their
best interests to do just that, however.

3) as to the Mechwarrior CG. In this case, its a question of what do you
mean by CG?? Fasa interactive, which controls the Computer Game rights, was
sold to Microsoft, not WOTC. Now, if there was a Card Game for MW, that
would depend on the contract between FASA and WOTC as to what happens to it.
IF its just a licencing agreement, They may decide to have Decipher take over
the card game, but if WOTC have flat out purchased the rights to the game,
WOTC will remain in control of them.

Personally, I'd wait and see before I'd start to worry that our favorate game
is going to go the way of te OOP shelves. It is also to early to speculate
on if this means that our favorite game is finally going to get the on line
support it deserves. Given the Deciperh web prenace, it does seem hopefuil,
but its still to early to tell.
