I had thought that it was meant to be very very thin - about as thick as a
coat of paint? The stuff's meant to be a replacement for LCD displays and
stuff.

Do you know how thin a coat of paint is? Anything that thin is either
_very_ fragile, or has to be applied with a brush... (Come to think of it,
a coat of paint isn't all that strong either, though it depends on lots of
factors apart from its thickness.) The thickness of a piece of paper or a
plastic bag or something sounds a lot more believable to me...
