Shamans and physads don't, and those are the only PC magicians in our
group.

You're right about these, but this stuff doesn't cost all that much. Not
if you've got, say, 150K around.

All the above are things you can spend cash on, but again, not all that
much. Except maybe bodyguards and fake ID, we never bothered with the
former. If your family thinks you're a private investigator, would you
send them a few thousand bucks every other month?

My present group consists of a rigger, a street sam, two physads, and my
character, a mage. The rigger and the sam spend most of their money on
toys, and the other three have money sitting around. The group has
decided to open a bar/club, and so the mage and the physads have put most
of the money into it, and the 'mundanes' can buy into the club when they
have the cash. I think that mages can spend their money on things if they
search hard enough. (Our characters have to, the Gm has made it known that
it is relatively easy to strip a character of his/her money)

No need to search. Start with a decent place to live, a house (like our
mage) or a small forest (as my shaman). Then bribe the officials into
handing out "Blanco" Travel Visas (if your land is outside Seattle).
Then have parts rebuild, or the old building tore down and a ecological
correct earth-house erected (who laughs? Lawn and Earth are living
things... try to snoop on us astrally, try it! :-). Do you know what
trolls charge when you ask 'em to dig a 10 by 8 meter hole, 1.5 meters
deep? Want to find out?

When you have this, you push up your libaries/lodges (hm... does 20
look like an appropriate level? Though so). You have friends from another
tradition? At least a force 6 Lodge/Libary is a must!

And surely you have mundane friends, and enemies. So you should pack
some hardware. LMGs, PACs, MMG, Some Assault Rifles.
And perimeter defense: Motion triggers, a small computer to oversee your
alarms... And a vehicle that matches your appearance, of course.
Custom Armored.

Come back when you've spent your first 8 million NY and ask me again, I
will tell you. :-)

Sascha

That could come in handy, especially if Johnson decides to set up a meet
at your bar. Doublecrossing would be much harder to do.(Hey barkeep, see
those guys over there, slip this in their drinks for 1K nuyen, when you
serve us.......)

Think of a bar full of shadow types:) Neutral territory for runners and
gangers, corps will keep their distance.

150,000 will buy you a suit of medium military armor and a helmet. Dikoting
soft armors also sucks up a lot of cash and helps more than you might think.
A Fuchi RealSense Kosmos XXV costs 750,000 (the equivalent to one hellacious
home AV system in 2057). With all the toys that could run WAY up there.
Then there's security measures and countermeasures, surveillance toys, and
all that other fun stuff. Your credstick's the limit when you're after
those goodies. I include street index in these, so before people get
uppity, do the math.

One of the detectives in the ongoing camapign gives his sister and her kid
like 75% of his income. I toss a couple extra karma his way now and then to
represent that warm fuzzy feeling.

Initiatory groups can cost tons. Retirement can cost even more tons
(permanent high lifestyle = 1,000,000 nuyen). Bribes can be really nasty on
teh credstick depending on who the bribe-ee is. Information is the most
valuable commodity of all in 2057, if piles of money can't be spent there,
then I don't know where else they could be.

One more thing to consider. If you are buying anything piblicly with
shadow earnings, you'll have to do some laundering. Anything that the IRS
(or other corps for that matter) can get solid records on had better be
linked to legitimate funds or you are likely get unwelcome visitors. I
believe NAGRL has instructions on how to legitimize your funds.
