edition of Shadowrun will take a few pages from Transhuman Space:
"Matrix 2.0! An all-new level of wireless “augmented reality” overlays the
real world, unleashing hackers to be mobile digital wizards."
Augmented Reality has been an integral part of Transhuman Space from the
start. And since TS has one of the best looks at the effects of realistic
technology on human society in an RPG, I consider taking a few pages from
that game for SR to be a good thing. I wonder what else from TS will be
echoed in SR?
- (Meta)human genetic engineering: We've already seen some of that in "State
of the Art" (forgot which one), although I didn't like the rules as
presented (if this is done at your birth, you get a price cut!).
- Large-scale space development: There has been a lot of mention of space
ever since the probe race, and a lot of things might happen until 2070 (the
"default year" for SR4E) - including a permanent Mars base (weren't there
some dragon bones lying around? If someone finds some pre-human artefacts or
magical minerals there, there might be a gold rush breaking out...). We
might even see a dedicated space sourcebook one of these days... The only
problem is that runs in space pretty much nerf Awakened characters - even
with the latest metamagical techniques...
On the other hand, the Second Matrix Crash might leave the global economy
and the megacons too weak to afford much in the way of space travel...
Your thoughts on all of this?
