Subject: The Editors of FASA

Hey all, I just thought I would put this forward. FASA does have several
editing members of it's staff, but they are either freelance individuals
(Hiyas Rob!! :), or they are closely tied to several other projects (as in
the upcoming MitS, Sharon is doing some of the editing as well). I know that
I have volunteered time to help myself, as I have been offered some editing
positions by two minor magazines and have the references (yes, believe it or
not, I can type, edit and speak english fairly well, I just *choose* to come
across like a twerp ;).

As for how much time they put into their jobs? I would say lots. When I
talked briefly with Mike M. earlier today, he said he was trying to get some
last minute things done before he left for Europe for a few of the larger
conventions (I presume at least one of them is game related, but I am
uncertain as to which ones, I didn't pry) later this week. And that is in
conjunction with making certain that MitS is moving right along.

If you want us to feel sorry for those overworked FASA developers, telling
us they're required to go to game conventions in Europe isn't the way to
start. >8->

Anyway, I know the FASA people are busy. They're a game company, so of
*course* they're overworked and underpaid. My point was that they could
easily budget the thousand dollars and few weeks necessary to get their
production proofs professionally copyedited by an outside source. The
tight schedules of the FASA employees is not an obstacle to this; it
should be considered a necessary production expense, like layout and cover
design. Every time they *don't* do this, they risk over a thousand
dollars in lost customer goodwill.

This is all conjecture on my part; it's entirely possible that they ARE
getting the books copyedited. If that's the case, however, I really think
they need to yank that job from whomever's doing it and take it to someone
more competent. Wrong centuries and country names aside, I'm tired of
seeing elementary style and grammar mistakes in FASA's novels. (These
seem to be much more common there than in the sourcebooks.)
