Tyger:
I, personally, think burning the character sheet was a very fitting
response (though I'm sure it didn't alleviate nearly as much stress as you
would have liked). I have a question, however: how do your other players
handle these situations? Don't they get upset about the free reign you
give this one abusive character? When you bring super-psycho against the
party in response to that one guy, don't the "normal" players get grounded
in between the two? (This is assuming that you just have the one munchkin
in the group, and that everyone else plays nice.)
As you may have guessed, team (not game) balance is a great concern for me;
if one character outshines the others, the players are going to feel left
out. That's why when new characters join an existing team in my game, they
get karma and nuyen bonuses to bring them closer to par with the others, and
aren't left in their dust. More than a couple times I've played with a super-
character, and didn't have any fun because s/he took care of whatever trouble
occurred before any of the rest of us could do anything. As GM, I see it as
my responsibility to make sure that no one player gets too much more
obnoxious than any other. This could mean nixxing an idea, or telling
the player to ease off, if I see such a thing occurring. To me, it's part
of being a GM (this doesn't mean that my players can't change my mind when I
get to full of myself, too drunk with my god-like power. They gently
let me know when I'm being a twit).
Wow, I didn't mean to go off that much. Tyger, this wasn't a flame, thwap,
or anything else. It started as a question, and segued into a justification.
This is just my own personal GM philoshophy. All other GM's rule their own
way.

I WOULD like an answer to my question, however.
