One of the players in our group had an interesting and shocking revelation
last night: The Universal Brotherhood is actually Amway!

Doctor Doom: your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to ask the
Dark Lord on High if this is indeed true. "Is the UB the Amway of 2054?"

Check a big con. It's no longer in publication, and hasn't been for some
time. If you happen to find a place with more than one copy, tell me. I
borrowed this from a friend several years ago, and it is still my favorite
supplement.

Same goes here...I've been trying to find a copy for some time without
any luck...it's the only official shadowrun product (not including the
novels) that I don't have.

Far as i know UB is out of print, it's a great find tho if you can get it.
The fiction piece is one of the best they've ever done and the adventure
isn't bad either. I still have my copy (stroking it gently). Personally i
thikn it's the best piece they put out as a sourcebook for sheer talent and
creativity (the thing gave me the wilies when I first read it)

AH, I am glad I am not the only one that had that reaction. We played UB
about 4 days after it came out. We started playing it on Friday night. We
got the "fiction piece" at the end of the session. (We were all sort of
scared, the GM has a flare for giving us the creeps anyways). The Decker
took home the fictional piece and we played again at Noon on Saturday. He
took a half hour giving us a rundown on the ...book...it is JAM PACKED. I
was playing the magic-user (read: Cat Shaman) and took the book outta his
hands and the character WOULD NOT let it out of his hands until he was done
with it. We were scared out of our minds. During the final battle, my Shaman
did a spirit control test with the Fly Queen and fraggin' won! His next
action was to dispell the spirit. My GM informed me that the Spy Totem had
already began to "re-work" my character's astral template. I babbled
something like "What?" or really comparible. He told me that my poor little
character had a Fly leg from just below the knee on his left leg. Bummer. I
tried Clonal regrowth. six weeks later the leg sarted to mutate into a fly
leg again. Grumbling, the character went uinder the laser-scalpel and had
half a cyber leg installed. Problem solved. That was a hard-earned lesson
for both me and the character to NOT frag with insect spirits.

Geez, looks I rattled on a bit....back to other stuff Shadowrun related...

E-mail me personally, if you know of one, at datheis@**********.net.

Well... I just got lucky (sort of) at the Con I just attended...

i picked up a used copy of th UB Booklet (But not the Module, Mising Blood,
that comes with it... Just the UB STory Booklet) for $1.00. i was very
happy, as that's one of my favorite stories, and what introduced the Bugs
for Bull...

I would love to get ahold of the whole module, but... i'll settle for
anything that I can get...:]

Just finished going through Missing Blood. Almost lost two characters in
the process. Not an adventure for the faint-of-heart. I really thought we
were done for.

Picked up a load of Nuyen during it, though. Good thing, too. Had to
replace all my armor, not to mention repair a little (OK, a lot!)
cyber-damage.

Our GM has been piecing our campaign together beautifully. He led us into
this, after we went through Queen Euphoria. Hell, we're paranoid as hell,
whenever we hear buzzing now. Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!

Anyone who has been through QE, and is interested in how ours ended, e-mail
me at datheis@**********.net . It was a hoot! Try to give me some info
about the adventure you went through, so I know you've been through it. I
don't like giving away spoilers to those who haven't gone through it yet. I
find it too difficult to effectively and honestly role-play through an
adventure, if you already know a lot about it.

Great sourcebook! (Yes, it is a sourcebook, more or
less) Get a copy! I read mine every once in a while
just because it is so cool. It's actually an
adventure in one book, and (the cool one) a
transcript of two journalists who investigate the UB
and discover all there deep, dark, nasty secrets in
the other. Still gives me the creeps reading it! Get
it.

It's a two-piece pulication, one is an adventure and the other a notebook
that serves as a player hand-out. From it, the players find out a lot
about the Universal Brotherhood that wasn't known to the world in general
before Bug City happened.

Now if only I'd find a copy somewhere...

ROTFL

The best time I've ever run the UB adventure was when we were drawing
parallels between it and aliens........ One of the players looked at me
and just went 'Oh No'... because he'd given me the mutual idea to drop a
bunch of insect spirits on him from the roof..... and up from the floor

It made the game a lot more interesting, actually, because the other
player was a mage with a Mana Bolt..... he'd fry four or five bugs an
action, and they couldn't even get close.

As a GM I HATE the low willpower of bugs....*grin*

I remember when I was in High School, and was debating whether or not to
mail order this sourcebook. Unfortunately, I was very broke, and couldn't
afford it (I thought it was only a sourcebook) and an adventure as well, so
I passed on UB. Then it went out of print, and then I find out that it is
really hard to get, and supposedly very good. I could just kick myself
sometimes.

O.K. like I've said a few times on this list, I used to own every
sourcebook published. I sold them all to my brother in a time of
deperate financial need, for a pitance.... $350 from $2000 spent...

Now, I think he owes me at least one sourcebook, considering the price,
and we've both played that one to death... I could talk to him and see if
he'd be willing to sell/donate it to you.

For the current group I (sometimes) play with, the UB adventure would
just be filler, as Bug City is due in six months. So it's no good to
them, except perhaps if it was adapted so they were part of the FBI
clean-up of the UB.

Actually, that's a good idea... I may get off my butt, and GM it before I
give it away.

The CURRENT group, yeah - however, we've been known to start new
characters. I'd rather buy it off you (if you're so desperate for money)
than see you send it out of the group, overseas to whoever you were
offering it to.

*grin* I _like_ that idea.

Hmmm, the original sourcebook cost about $20 American for me to buy, and
it's now out of print. Accounting for the damage sustained though normal
use, I'd say that its still worth about $20 Aus, or $20 American

(postage and currency conversion can be a bastard)

Any raise on $20?

Seriously though, Lady J plays in the same group as me, and I'd never
hear the end of it (well... I _would_, but it's not worth it). I was
going to offer it to Ray 'cause he's in Brisbane like me and the postage
and other stuff would be cheap and easy.

Whomever wants it has four weeks to say so.; After that the entire
collection departs for Canberra with my brother Roland.

BTW; This list isn't a trading post..... I don't feel too good about

Bwhaahahahah!! According to mailing list policy, you owe Itribe.net $1999
american for advertising!! : )
Since the selling started as a joke, I guess we'll waive the fee.. But, no
offense, keep the rest of it off the list, if you do intend to make an
auction out of it, please. Donate any profits you make to the EFF, and
we'll all be happy :)

I'm not extremely familar with it, but the EFF is the Electronic Frontier
Foundation. Its basically a huge organization dedicated to freedom on the
internet, and all that stuff. Web pages are at http://www.eff.org, and its
the site that all the blue ribbons link too.
It was Robert Haydens (Original listowners) pet cause, and has remained the
lists benefactor in case we ever do collect any surplus money (Which is so
unlikely I don't even consider it possible :)
I'm sure checking the web page would tell you a heck of a lot more than I
ever could : )

Fair enough. I wasn't familiar with the name behind the blue ribbon
campaign. I guess I should point out that any extra money I get
will go to feeding me or buying some clothes. (Ah the life of a student)

This is a serious note and please don't think I'm
soliciting or anything. The Electronic Frontiers
Foundation is one of the best damn things around. It
is fighting for your freedoms online. If you've ever
felt like donating to a good cause, this is the one.
Please check out their site (could someone post the
addy for me) and get the details.

Hey Folks,

Many a time, I sat here reading as other people bragged about
getting their hands on a copy of the Universal Brotherhood. And many a
time, words like "you lucky bastard" exploded from my mouth, since I
couldn't find one for myself. Well, now it is my turn to brag. Yes, I
have gotten my grubby mitts on my very own copy of the Universal
Brotherhood.
Now, just so this doesn't seem totally rude, let me mention that the
place I mail ordered it from had two copies. So that means there is
another to be had. I don't wish to potentially violate the list's rules
for advertising by publicizing the place, so if you want the info,
please email me privately. And please but UB in the subject.
I am off to go read about how I can "unleash my inner abilities" and
"build a better tomorrow." MUAHAHAHAHA.....

You're vicious and cruel. I admire that in a person sometimes....

Well, no, but if you've never had any experience with the UB or the like
before you're going to get scared a lot more, either as a player or a
character.

I can assure you that it's fun to watch players go through that run whe
they don't have a clue what's behind everything... I had a group of four
or five PC, and only one player knew the truth behind the UB when I ran it
about a year ago. Now, with new characters and everything, they still run
like hell when they encounter something similar :)

Think ALIENS. Now think ALIENS as a Sunday school picnic.

THE UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD is the Shadowrun module from Hell. The module
itself, Chris Kybasik's MISSING BLOOD, is something terrifying to behold
once it goes into motion, and one of the best damn games I've *ever*
been involved with in almost 25 years of gaming. The sourcebook half is
some of the sorely-missed Nigel Findley's best fiction, too.

Spooky, spooky, spooky stuff.

I sold mine recently for quite a tidy sum, then lucked out and found a
replacement copy while I was on vacation last year. That one isn't for

Now if I could just find an affordable copy of HARLEQUIN, and a copy of

I agree whole-heartedly here on both accounts. The one real trick is, you
have to have a GM *and* a group of players that are *REALLY* going to get into
the "Role-Play" of this. I've been into the "UB" material twice now.
The
first time I had a really good group of players. The second time, the players
were, well, *average*. It can be incredibly fun and incredibly enjoyable.
In all accounts.

Especially if the GM decides to alter, *one* tiny little detail. Like
reaching the "baby" before it dies.

Double Exposure is also the Seattle side of it, for those who don't like to
travel, and doesn't really give much into the truly mindboggling scope of
the Brotherhood dispersal. They actually remind me of the Invid.

Ahhhh! What are those then...Well, I know what Shadows of the Underworld are, but what is
Super Tuesday...wait...doesn't that have something to do with the election of Dunkelzon or

Good luck. I've got my eyes open for copies for at least three other
people; I suppose I could add you to the list. Send me a reminder

Yes, it does. It's five adventures taking place before the 2057 elections,
with tie-ins to the various candidates. Much the same as SotU, in short. I
can't really say more because of spoiler reasons, of course.

BTW, could you set your mailer to word-wrap every 70 characters or so?

I think Exchange wraps at your windows size, so set the size of your
mail window to 70 characters across. Use of a monospaced font works
much better as well.

I'm working on it. I have my windows set to a small size, but it's still not
working entirely correct....I suppose that I'll just have to remember to hit enter
instead of letting it word wrap. :)

The original price was around $18 I think. I'll have to check my
copy when I get home but that sounds right. I was in school at the
time, and wasn't working and I could afford it, so it must have not
cost too much. :)

I somehow doubt that... Original price was US$12.00, but it's been out of
print since 1993 or so, which makes it very difficult to find now.

And except for the battered, but intact and quite usable, copy sitting on my
shelf which I got for $6 a few months ago, I haven't seen it go for less
than US$40.00 any time in the recent past.

Maybe give it to the person who comes up with an idea for the most
original contest?

(Such as coming up with the idea to hold a contest where the winner must
come up with an idea for a contest? :)

Nah, it was $12. It doesn't give a cost on the cover, but I'm about 90%
certain that was the original cover price. I think it was considered an
"adventure" at the time (despite saying sourcebook/adventure on the cover
and spine), so would have been comparably priced for similar things.

Yes, it does. On SR books anyway, the block with the barcode always gives
the price in the upper right-hand corner: remove the first "5" in the
number printed there, and you have the price in dollar-cents. The UB has
"51200" so it cost US$12.00.

There are two copies of this up for grabs on ebay, if you're looking to get
your hands on what many consider the Holy Grail. One of them is clearly
marked as such, the other is part of a collection where you're gonna wind up
with a lot of books you probably already own, but it might be worth looking
at.

Greetings -n- Salutations,

Since my chances of actually achieving a UB book on Ebay seem to be quite
bad I was wondering if anyone could give me some general information on
the group. I'm not looking for game mechanics or quotes from the book...

I'm running a "vintage" shadowrun game and it is just about time for the
UB to open it's doors and offer a better way to the denizens of the world.
I would just like some tips on how the organization is run. Do those who
follow it act in a specific way? Is their a symbol, itel, or style of
dress common to those in the UB?

I pretty much understand how the events unfold one the UB is found out,
but I want to try to portray them correctly before anyone discovers what
they are really up to.. ANY help with the UB would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Just two days ago I held a copy of the book at GCUK, of course, I had spent
up by then and it was in pretty bad condition. Plus someone I know bought
it so I will eventually get to read it.

Apparantly the adventure inclosed works really well if the players are
genuinely ignorant as to the existance of bug spirits. I recomend you check
out http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/ if you want an overview of the book.

Phil

Don't worry too hard, just give it time.

When I got my copy off of e-bay I was thinking the same thing, but I
eventually won an auction AND paid only about $35.00 for it. I was just
persistent and eventually won out. Same held true for the original
Harlequin, and I paid low on that too. You will eventually win, you just
need to be patient.

But Gurth's link to his own Shadowrun pages are broken (hint, hint, Gurth,
you promised to fix it at the same time you updated the pages with alle the
information I gave you about the Hungarian and Protugese editions of SR, but
the you haven't done that either :-) ). You should go to
http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/shadowrun/ instead.
