Subject: Video Games in 2050 ... and beyond

OK. I know SR has progressed to 2070, but I just
wanted to get some idea of, if you wanted a Player
Character to play a video game in an Adventer ... what
would it be like?

I mean, today, we turn on the console, but the disk
in, and use the controller to start and play the game.
How would a charatcer go about that in the Shadowrun
universe? Would they use a Simsense Deck and Simsense
Recordings? Would they simply have a cyberterminal or
cyberdeck and play on-line in the Matrix? Would there
be an "off-line" option through the Simsense Deck,
cyberterminal, or cyberdeck?

What format would the games come in? Would they be
optical chips? discs? PLTG nodes?

I thought the 2-page section on video games in Target:
Matrix was great, though! It gives you a good idea of
the experience of video games in Shadowrun ... which
gives you some idea of how to design a shadowrun
adventure between video game companies (or the
Shadowrun equivalent).

Probably not much different than today, I suppose, unless you're playing
a simsense game. I suppose most games would be on-line in some way,
seeing as how that's the cheapest way to get a good AI :)

Chips, I would guess -- discs have been obsolete tech in SR pretty much
since before first edition, despite the fact that everyone seems to
still use them. (I got somewhat annoyed when my players kept referring
to "video tapes" _every_time_ -- after a while it felt like they weren't
making an effort to understand the game world).

As I recall, the mini-adventure in the first edition referred to some
video games that were popular at the time: "Little Mutant Vik Ninja Cyberboy",
"Orbital Ninja Death Commando", "Ultimate Bike Race Ninja Sreet Duel",
and
"Super Mario Brothers LXXVII" (hee!).

The same source describes them as simsense games and charge 1¥ per minute.

Are you looking for 2050 or 2070 era games?
Target: Matrix talks about a Matrix game called, IIRC, Tales of Atlantis
which features T'Skrang and Obsidimen as playable races (And is based
heavily on Earthdawn lore), a game run by the Atlantean Foundation.
SR4 talks about Shadowrun the MMORPG as well as other Matrix based games,
plus... I'm blanking on the name, but basically a "Real Time" AR based First
person Shooter. If i can ever get our current game off the ground, I'm
planning to have fun with my groups Technomancer and that game. Whether he
likes it or not ;)
