of the Awakening. However, a great deal of the witches' personas may be based
upon such rituals. For example the main features of the mythological witch
were his/her abilities to fly, cast nasties on various villagers, (such as
boils, the itch and other fun, polite things like that) have a familiar, and
eat little children. Ones like Babba Yaga could fly. So we need to encorporate
a type of magic user who does these things, perhaps has a familiar, and make it
semi-realistic. (at least in game terms.)
Should we make the witch into a type of religion, that will solve some
of it. I.E.: The rituals while perhaps not necessarry, are part of tradition, an
d a bit like centering. Second we have the 'wise-woman's' little nasty tricks
.
Some of these could be on the basis of potions, powders etc. This would use
foci and/or other things. (Please keep the eye of newt out of here, they have
enough of a hard time seeing with their eyes) But seriously, the witch would
need to be toned down. At best it wouldn't
be able to get as powerful as any
of the major magic types. But could do more 'magically' than a Phys. Adept.
Suggestions are to have a familiar/type as perhaps an extra set of eyes
(acts a bit like a watcher on the physical plane) and a good use of herbs.
GM's should create a rank of difficulty for spells and have their witches go
galavanting off into the sunset looking for their ingredients. Most low level
spells could be made into the above potions and powders, where an application,
or, as someone put it, a good toss, might make a pretty good explosion. These,
along with Hayden's ideas on the elementals/spirits in regards to curses etc.,
ought to keep SOMEONE busy for awhile making up spell lists.
Anyway, just another comment from the Gryffyn. By the way, dark wiccans
do exist, therefore, dark witches/mages/whatever-we-can-call-them-and-be-
politically-correct will also exist. Makes for a great game if a player pisses
one of THEM off . . . *grin*
As always, comments, criticisms and Thwaps welcomed . . .
