I've never seen the Simpsons, so I couldn't comment on that, but nowadays I
spend more time doing safety stuff that actual work, and it's getting
ridiculous. A recent Risk Assessment I was asked to review (the job was
lab scale pouring of molten glass) included the following:- "Hazard -
catching fingers in door entering laboratory - safety gloves required"

We get the occasional cowboy promoted out of the lab as fast as possible....
