Hi everybody,
I'm new to the list and this is my first mail.
I've played a couple of years Shadowrun by now. I've seen the new (3rd)
edition of the game just recently. As me and my friends used to play with
the second edition I was wandering what's new, which things changed, if the
timeline advanced and so forth.
In particular I'm curious to know if the simple-complex action system is
changed.
My players always found it too cumbersome. In our opinion the action in a
Shadowrun game should be fast and furious and that particular rule slowed
it down too much.

Thank you in advance

Oh my god, Gabriele :)

that wasn't really a proper question.....

Hi, I'm Paolo (Trieste)

Lots of little things. The most important are the new initiative system and
the spellcasting process (now it's more coherent with the rest of the game)

Nope. Still the same.

Yeah, I agree. Sometimes I even forget the fact that my character has 2
simple actions in a combat turn :)

Anyways, welcome to the ShadowRN list.

Mutande in lamierino e nessuna paura, mi raccomando :)

Well good to have you aboard. Make sure you read the FAQ, and I've suggested
to two or three other people whom have asked me, try and read some of the
backlogs/archives available at (http://jackpoint.org). It will help you
figure out what has been "Hot Topics" lately, and what hasn't.

This is really a long, and very drawn out, question you are asking. On a
very simple level, the game is basically the same. Compilations of material
from previous books (Main Book, Rigger-2, VR2) occurred mostly, and the
initiative/combat system was given a heavy once-over. Magic of course, being
the difficult/debated topic that it always is, was also redone in several
areas.

I don't have the website handy, but there is a page addy running around that
covers a LOT of the SRII vs. SRIII stuff. With luck, someone else has it and
will post it for you.

In truth, the Simple Vs. Complex system was retained, but certain actions are
explained better and have more value than previous. Again, with luck someone
will post the website addy comparing 2nd and 3rd editions and you'll get a
better reference.

According to Shaylann, at 2:37 on 18 Sep 99, the word on
the street was...

Welcome :)

In short, the timeline has been updated to 2060 (from 2053), and the rules
from Virtual Realities 2.0 and Rigger 2 have been included in the main
rulebook. Furthermore, existing rules have been streamlined and some have
been changed in more major ways (like the magic system).

It hasn't.

I don't know if this is the one K means, but there is quite some info in
the preview section of SR3 on the fasa website:
http://www.fasa.com/Preview/10070/SR2%20to%20SR3.html

also there's quite some info available in the third edition shadowFAQ:
http://shadowrun.html.com/shadowfaq/Shad3FAQ.html
