Aboriginal shamen weren't around to look after it. This just doesn't add up.
1) Why would mana need humans to tend to it?
2) There are today a few tribes that keep alive many of the old traditions,
mainly in the Northern Territory area. Meanwhile I'd wager there are huge
expanses of Europe and Asia that have no 6000 year old traditional practices
any more, so if this is the case then Australia should be less prone to mana
storms. I'm not sure how much the Amerinds preserve their traditional
cultures, but I assume its about the same rate as here.
3) Even if, through the resource rush, VITAS, racial violence and all the
traumas of the 6th World wiped out all of the traditionalists, everywhere
else in the world when the magic came back, people took up forgotten
practices. There's at least one immortal elf of Aboriginal stock that could
be interested in teaching the old ways, and then there's dragons, spirits,
totems and paranimals who'd be there to teach.
I'm also interested in any information on the Aboriginal Nations, as
mentioned in Cyberpirates. I see them more as terrorist groups than
established nations, since today the general Aboriginal population is
apathetic or even content, while a few firebrands fight long, hard and loud
for the rights of their people (sometimes even becoming at odds with the
actual desires of the people they represent, but thats politicians for you).
If there are actual countries of Aboriginals in Shadowrun, I'd again look
toward the Northern Territory, where even today they greatly outnumber all
the newer Australians put together, they keep alive many of the old ways,
and by all accounts, many bear a bit of a grudge.
Obviously whatever the results here, when Target: Awakened Lands finally
comes out that will be canon, but til then I'm making my own rules :)
