Hello,

=== Note: No offense intended in the following! ===

I recently came across *Shadowrun slang* words whose use I am uncertain
of:

Are *keeb* and *trog* in the 6th world as offensive derogatory terms as
*kike* and *nigger* are in the 20th century? Is the reaction of
metahumans' the same as that of members of ethnic groups if the
respective expressions are used against them?
What about *halfer* (spe?)?
Other important SR words to know about?
How do you apply (if at all) these in your games?

Thanks in advance for the revelative replies,

KoBold

I cut the others, just to keep down the yelling...

mention breeder...

And rounder, and, and ....

I suspect it's all in the tone of the speaker and the ear of the
beholder. I suspect there are trolls and orks who kid each other for
bein' trogs, the same way some black kids today will call each other
'nigger'. Don't ever think a white guy could get away with that,
though.

That reminds me of a scence between one of my players playimng Drewgar, Dwarf
Merc, and a none to polite troll ganger.

"You got somethin' against trolls, stuntie?"
Drewgar quick reply: "No. In fact, Bosco behind the bar there is a good pal.
I do have something against under- evolved, drek for brains,, personality
challenged trogs like you that give trolls and orks bad names."

"WHO THE DREK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"
"Who do I think I am? WHO THE DREK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"
"Who the... No ones ever asked me that...... Let me think, I'll get back to
ya."
( He falled an intelligence check.)
Troll walks off....

Pretty much yes.

Now for the shameless (shame? what's that?) plug:

Once I've got my own site up and running and the major bugs removed (I'll
be staying indoors in front of my computer this holiday weekend), there
will be a fairly significant section dedicated to just this sort of
question. Racism, sex, and various other topics will get the treatment.

So Koenig (translates into King in English doesn't it?), hang on for about
a week or so, then check out my site once I announce it to RN.

But you're about right in your guess.

Yup, all of those words are definitely derogatory (or at the very least
they're "not polite.")

*Breeder* is derogatory orc-slang for homo sapien sapiens.
*Dandelion Eater" is "highly insulting."
*Halfer* was originally orc-slang for dwarves. As it has come into more
popular(?) main-stream usage, it is often (but not always) used
derogatorily. It is not considered to be vulgar.
*Keeb* while not actually vulgar is "highly insulting."
*Squat* is both "vulgar" and "highly insulting."
*Trog* is additionally considered to be "vulgar."
*Wizworm* is from "wizard" and the Tolkienesque term "worm." While
derogatory in usage, the fact that its origins come from Prof JRR, it is
taken to be "highly impolite."
