So what specific divisions between the skills did you come up with? We
were thinking of separate general (active) skills for running, climbing,
swimming, jumping etc etc... ???

Yes, several people have pointed out that a lot of the knowledge skills
are a bit overgenerous. However, let's face it, most people don't
munchkin-out the knowledge skills nearly as much... and having a
character being a walking encyclopaedia is *still* better for roleplaying
than an adept who can do *anything* athletic at all... it's not nearly as
unbalancing... at least in our campaigns.

Ok here goes my 2 cents at our skill web for athletics

ATTRIBUTE (STR or QUI dependent on skill being used)

General Concentration
------- -------------
ATHLETICS (STANDARD SR VERSION, modified)
Stamina (used for sustained actions such as jogging)
Running (use quickess)
Jumping (standing or running jump not pole vault etc)
Hiking (very similar to stamina)
Swimming (Specilization various strokes)
Weight Lifting (use strenght)

ATHLETICS (TRAINED)
Pole-Vault
Gynmastics
Weight Lifting (Use skill)
Sprinting (Use skill)
PARACHUTING
-type of parachting (tandem, free fall etc)
MOUNTAINEERIG
-type again

I haven't placed our entire skill web up due to space contraints ;-),
but I think that it is enough to give a general gist. The Athltics
skill is used more like a 'general fitness skill'. What I'll do (if
you want) is write up a more comprehesive version and mail it in Word
format.
