JUST IN CASE

in the dragon heart trilogy, the Character is always talking about being
trained according to the silent way.... does anyone have any game mechanics
info on that, and the other ways in MITS? also, I am seeking game info on
Ryan Mercury's adept power of effectively being able to use improved
invisibility on himself......is that a result of his being a drake? or an
adept power? or has her really been following the magicians way?

Don't know if there are game mechanics for the ways, I see them as
guidelines to how to play the character and in which direction should
go his skills.

Stephen Kenson (the author of MiTS...) published the power "Knack" on
his HP (sorry, don't know the URL) which allows an adept to use a spell.
Cost for the power depends on the spells drain. IIRC the power was cut
out of MiTS during revision.

The costs per level (forcepoints) of the power
Drain / Cost
L / 0.25
M / 0.5
S / 1
T / 2

For imp. invisibility one forcepoint would cost 0.5 Points

The homepage in question should be
http://hometown.aol.com/talonmail/mitsmisc.html, but a word of warning
should be issued in regards to the Knack power. If your players has
any munchkin tendancies at all, they will find a way to exploit this
power for all its worth - just imagine how much damage an adept with 6
levels of Moderate Manabolt (3 points) can do when there's no drain!

Or you could disallow knacks which copy spells with selectable drain codes..
which would car the vast majority of munchie type spells for those
attempting to rort the drain system...

Or put a time limit on the knacks usage perhaps?

I think you'll find that easier said than done.. players have a
tendency to become quite annoyed when you change the rules mid-game.
The point I'm trying to make is that before allowing an adept to buy a
non-officiel power, you should seriously consider the impact it will
have on your game - a good example of a non-officiel power which
should never be allowed is the "Web of Concealment"-power from the old
"Adept's Handybook" (sorry.. can't remember where I got it from). I
can't even being to think how many times I've exploited having an
unbeatable Improved Invisibility with no drain;)
