If you use Hotmail to read the lists, chances are you're not getting this
message, but just in case you are, a quick warning. I tappears that
Hotmail, in their infinite wisdom, returns an error 554 when their servers
are too overloaded to process more incoming mail. What this causes is a
bounce message back to the sender with the same error code, and according
to the SMTP specification, 5xx errors are permanent failures. Mailman, our
list management software, counts the number of these permanent failures,
and when there is more than a certain number (5 I believe) it automatically
unsubscribes the offending address(es). In the past day I've gotten at
least 20 notifications of Hotmail accounts being unsubscribed, so using
Hotmail to subscribe to the lists should be considered iffy at best. I'd
recommend you find another more reliable email provider if you're currently
using Hotmail.
