.. For lack of a better name ..

As most of you have noticed, when a minor infraction such as a HTML posting
or a un-snipped post happens, a ton of people tend to come out of the
woodwork and yell at the person who is guilty, which occasionally ends up
turning into a nice little flame war, generally pisses a ton of people off,
and at times, causes people to unsubscribe, giving us a nasty reputation.

Which of course, we don't like, or really deserve.

So, instead of having everyone respond to mis-posts and mistakes, we're
going to a appoint a few 'flunkies', for lack of a better term. (I like
enforcers, myself..). This 'flunkies' would be the ones who post things
such as "Hey so-and-so, you're posting in HTML!", or "Excuse me Mr Bob, but
you didn't snip anything from that post, and only added one line.", etc.

The current flunkies are of course the list admins: Mark I, Dvixen, and
Myself. We're looking for a few good men (or gals!) who have reliable
email access, have been on ShadowRN for awhile, are generally in good
standing with the other list members, and meet our super special
Alpha-3-Level criteria. Which, of course, we can't tell you what it is.

The people who are NOT flunkies would then be asked to NOT post things such
as that, but let the flunkies do their job. This will reduce OT clutter,
promote On-Topic discussion, and hopefully make the list a friendlier place.

So -- if you feel you want to be a certified ShadowRN Flunky, send an email
to me, at <fro@***.ab.ca>. Give me a quick run down of why you should be a
flunky. Chances are I'll recognize you, and make a snap decision whether
you're a worthy flunky or not, but I might just read the email and then
decide based on that.

I'll forward my choices to the other Admins, and we'll discuss, or yell, or
chant, or something like that.

The 'winners' will be announced sometime in the next couple of weeks, but
we're only looking for a *few* good flunkies, so get your application in
early!

As much as I would like too, I don't think I will. I somehow think the OTness
won't change ultimately, but my reasons for believing such are my own. I wish
all the other 'flunky-wannabees' the best of luck...like Spike here...

One meek little suggestion: Rather than sending the Thwaps, wedgies, and
"Hey, you're bein' a wanker!" comments to the list, could they be emailed
so that not everyone need read them? If we're trying to get rid of too
much OT, that would help.

That's what I was hoping for... a little "This message was replied to in
private" method for the future list.flunkie.junior. I guess it would not
only cut down on the OT, like you said, but help more people into posting
according to the guideline than screaming blasphemies at them... But then
again, that's just my peonic opinion...

hehehe I agree with with you on this one, We debate and argue with each
other a great deal
beside which I'm still pretty new to the list IMO... I learn things from
the list all the time
that end up in my Game. I hope others might take some of my ideas and
use them or say that's down right silly I don't want to do that. :)

Adam, you haven't selected the flunkies yet, so I'm still gonna bitch
:)
Please, folks(not just Spike), the man said to EMAIL HIM!
If you don't have his email, then by the process of natural selection
you can't be a flunky!
I have enough crap in my email box to have people quoting Adam and
then saying "OOOO, me!"
Thank you.

-Vagabond, who will resort to private email bitchings once the flunkies
are appointed. :)

I'd hope anybody who posts their response regarding wanting to be a list
flunky TO THE LIST instead of to the Adams requested PRIVATE MAIL is
automatically disqualified.

This thread is ALREADY generating OT posts.

The problem with emailing in private is that other people don't =
know you did it so they are apt to respond. Of course a lot of people =
still respond without checking if other people have already responded =
so duplicate posts/ threats still occur.

And as much as I enjoy yelling at people I don't have the time =
to be dutifully watchful for the position. B>[#

Well, the point *was* to have a few flunkies to do that, and no one else
would do it, knowing that the flunkies would have the thwapping situation
well in hand.

Well if we get a couple then they should be chosen to cover most of
the active posting time. Since we are international and on the go 24-7
there is a lot of active time. Things get rough when one of the usual
whipping boys is offline for a while and others decide to fill in for
them. Now when I know my boy Spike is online I know I don't need to say
anything.

As far as other suggestions for a perfect world, the new flunkies
should be friendlier than me about it when responding to faux pas. B>]#
