There was (as a few of you noticed) a list outage from the 24th until
the 26th. Apparently the list software crashed while I was away for
the holidays, and I was unaware of the problem until I returned on
Tuesday. I've taken steps on the list-server machine to try and make
sure that if the server *does* crash, that it will be automagically
restarted. Just thought I'd let everyone know what was going on.
Happy Holidays!

Okay folks, the list outage this time was _REALLY_ out of my
hands. As many of you know, the East Coast of the United States
was experiencing "The Blizzard of '96" .. Our offices just happen
to be in Southeastern Virginia, and while we only got a few inches
of snow here, it was enough to knock out power for most of the
downtown Norfolk area. (The street in front of my office looks
like Beirut. Some of the power lines beneath the street exploded,
and sent manhole covers and chunks of pavement sailing..)

Sorry for the downtime, and everything should be flowing smoothly
again..

And you DIDN'T go out with some spare metres of cable???

Argh! I would have sent you gloves for that if you'd asked :-)

The lists experienced an outage recently, as I'm sure some of
you noticed. Everything should be back up and running now..

We recently made some major changes to one of our nameservers,
and with all of the hubbub about that going on, I didn't even
notice that the machine that houses the lists had crashed.
Please let me know if you notice any further weirdness with
the lists over the next few days.. Thanks,

Well, that would explain why I haven't had any mail for the past week.
I suppose that this means *all* mail has been lost prior to this date???

One question, if the list server crashed, does that require that I re-
subscribe to the list, as I have only had the Admin message, and nothing
else, or is everyone trying to figure out what mail has been sent and
received, and what hasn't.

I am going to assume that everybody posting to this list is still alive,
and that I wasn't talking to electronic ghosts.... or was I????

Helloooo is there anybody out there?

The machine that runs listproc.itribe.net will be down for
several hours today due to an operating system upgrade.
_PLEASE_ do not deluge me with email about the outage, and
I'll send another message once that upgrade is complete and
the machine is back online.
