understand it. This will go into the FAQ, and it is official ShadowRN
"Canon", so to speak. Yes, it's a rather long and boring [Admin] mail.
Suffer -- every society has boring parts.
Recently, the ShadowRN mailing list administrators (Mark Imbracio, Adam
Jury, Dvixen Pseudonym.) decided to appoint several "Flunkies". These
people ended up being -- Dave Buehrer <dbuehrer@******.carl.org>, Drekhead
<drekhead@***.net>, and Gurth <gurth@******.nl>. These three collectively
decided to be known as "GridSec".
First, let me go into my reasoning for appointing people to do this.
ShadowRN has a fairly large number of active posters, and a fair number of
these are "Newbies" (I classify a "Newbie" as anyone who has been on
the
list less than 6 months, or anyone who still *acts* like one ;)
Generally, when one of these people commits a minor infraction, 10 people
jump on his/her back, which makes them feel like a target, starts flame
wars, etc, etc. Because these aren't good things, and don't foster
productivity, I decided that it would be best to appoint several people
whom I trust to help resolve these situations amicably and teach newbies
the ropes, so to speak.
Although this is something I tend to do myself, my reduced list presence
and general online time often leaves me up to 12 hours behind the lists
postings, and unable to do such things properly.
This is the GridSec's job description:
#1. To advise people in private when someone has done something that is a)
in violation of the FAQ, b) Likely to cause a flame war, c) Not covered in
the FAQ but something that would generally be deemed annoying.
#2. To *help* these people fix the problem, or find a way around it.
#3. To report to the list Admins anyone who appears to be troublesome or in
complete violation of the rules.
We choose the members of GridSec from all who applied (20some) based on how
long they had been on the list, whether they generally got along with the
rest of the list, and basically our "Gut Instint". If for some reason you
have a problem with who was selected, email *me*, not the list. Also, if
you have a problem with something one of them did, email *me*, not the list.
If anyone from GridSec would like to speak up or add something to this, go
ahead and toss your 2 cents in. I probably forgot something.. :)
