I just received a message from Hans-Ulrich Giese, who runs the
HEARN listserver, saying that our lists will be closed either next weekend
or the beginning of next week. Since he'd been hosting these lists as a
favor to us, we can't really complain.
There's a good possibility that I can move 'em, but I'm not sure
yet. It's likely that I can only find space for ShadowRN and either NERPS
or ShadowTK. Also, the software would be different (SmartList instead of
ListServ), so all our familiar commands would change.
If any of the rest of y'all have the possiblity of getting our
lists hosted for a few years, please let me know.

Nope, can't complain. We wanna complain, but that isn't fair.

Well, certainly we need to save both ShadowRN and ShadowTK/Plot-D, all of
which are the most famous of the lists.

I'll look around, but it's an entertainment list, so that's a bitch.

We've got three possiblities right now. I'll post more once more
information is known.

What is needed to host a list? If drive space is required, my internet
provider provides me with unlimited disk space. If I need a static IP I can
get one rather cheaply 5 or ten bucks a month extra. So if you could let me
know I might be able to host this list. Forgive me for my ignorance on this
topic.

What about ShadowGM? Will that one be going away? It's a great idea we
just need to get more traffic going on it.

I could probably get them set up on the same server that currently carries
ShadowGM, but that's a student-run machine and it certainly won't be around
for "a few years." I'd give it a year or two. Let me know if I should ask
about it.

There are numerous Internet providers that will carry a mailing list for a
few bucks a month. Donations, anyone? We never did hear about that "drive
drive" we were having.. Also, is there any possibility that we could get
some support from FASA, at least for the ShadowRN list? We are, after all,
the closest they come to a real presence on the Internet.. If we can do it
without having to be an official mouthpiece of any sort, it could be worth
looking into.

Please do. I've got a few more ideas in my head too, but don't know if
they're the ones you're already investigating, because you won't tell us.

ShadowGM is on a different machine. It is not supported by the
administrators of this list (in fact it was opposed by Mr. Hayden) and
it will not be going away. (Mail to majordomo@******.residence.gatech.edu
with "subscribe shadowgm" on the first line of the message body to
subscribe.)

Drive space, a static IP, preferably one that's always online, and a bit of
processor grunt. A fast connection doesn't hurt, either.

Different provider.

In my search, I'm also looking for:

- Reliable mailing list software
- Knowledgable sysadmins
- Reliable connection, not far from a central peering point

Try looking at Majordomo. It's free (good thing) fairly easy to setup, easily
managed, and has all the options like digest and archiving.

I guess the above kind of pegs me on this one...

> - Reliable connection, not far from a central peering point

I'd run it off of one of my Linux machines here at work, but I'm *severely*
limited on space.

However, I'd be glad to help out in any way.
