There has been a rash of people "top posting" lately (That is, posting your
reply ABOVE the quoted text, as opposed to below), and posting in HTML markup.

Both of these posting styles are not welcome on ShadowRN; top-posting for
reasons of consistency and ease of reading, and HTML because it's simply
not compatable with all email clients, can lead to message size bloat, and
it messes with the web-archives.

The Posting Guidelines section of the FAQ is at
http://hlair.dumpshock.com/showfaq.php3?title=ShadowRN&faqlistúqsrn&pageúqposting.html&faqsection=Posting+Guidelines

- if you have not read it before I suggest giving it a quick skim so you're
familiar with all the list policies.

Thank you.

It seems to encourage it, yes, but it doesn't *force* anything of the sort.
I use Outlook myself, and just move the cursor to where it needs to be.

When I used to use outlook You used to be able to
select wheather you reply after or befor original
message. also you could set wheather or not the
original message would be quoted.

John (and anyone else having Outlook problems), you can customize the way Outlook handles
replies. You can even stop it from automatically copying the original message (if Outlook
is putting it on top of your replies), and manually paste the original on your own to
accommodate list policy. In the Outlook menu, go to Tools, Options, Preferences, and click
on the "E-mail options" button.

No. It doesn't. It may place the cursor at the top of a replied message,
but you can easily enough move to the end. In addition, the ">" character
preceeding a line is the standard method of denoting quoted text, with
one ">" per quote. As such, because you prefaced, for whatever reason,
your response with a ">", when I replied, it appears as if I am replying
to a response to your message.

When replying to a message, hit Ctrl+End. This will place you on the last
line of the message. If the line is not a blank line, hit Enter. If the
lines are automaticly prefaced by the ">" character, check your paragraph
styles, making sure everything is set to normal and no indentation. I
don't have Outlook on this computer so I can't run through the steps in
making sure that a message is consistent with the established e-mail
standards.

It is important to comply with such established standards because
deviation can impair the readability of messages. In order to ensure
successful communication of your ideas, it is important to follow the
establish standards. I personally have skipped over many messages because
they were difficult to follow, and a handful of the list members cannot
read html encoded e-mails.

Thank you,
