Next to the file with the adventure dates I mentioned a few days
ago, I've also put up a file with the dates from the sourcebooks.
(Talk about spending a boring afternoon... :) All I'm missing are
the dates for four books, well three and a half:

* Germany Sourcebook: as I only have the German version I
don't know about the dates in the English one.
* London Sourcebook: I don't own it, so I can't add it to the list.
* Street Samurai Catalog: what are the dates in the 2nd edition?
I seem to recall they're in 2053/54, whereas my first edition has
dates in 2050 and '51.
* Tir na nOg: as for London SB.

Any assistance will be appreciated; take a look at the page to see
what dates I'm after.

Just looking through these 4 was a pain ... must have been a lot of work
to do that list of SBs ...

Btw, the link from your page to the geek code stuff is bad, the link is:

That would be a great help, as these are way too many dates :)

Okay, good to have that confirmed. Something kept nagging in
the back of my mind that the dates had been altered for the
second edition update...

There are a few tricks to it, mainly to only look at the month -- for
example, the latest date youv'e seen so far is 17 July. So you just
look at the month to see if it says "7" or higher, and if it does,
you check the whole date. If it's 6 or less, NEXT.

Some books are easier to do than others, BTW. Shadowtech is the
easiest, because the first date in the book is the earliest and the
last is the latest :) Books like the SSC or Paranormal Animals are
also fairly easy as the dates are all in the same place and in
chronological order; other sourcebooks are hard, because you
need to look all over the pages to find each date.

Hey, do you expect me to check the links on my page every week
to see if they're still good? I leave that to people like you :)

My morning isn't really living up to it's potential, and since the
boys from Dell are late replacing my monitor (what's new) I do have
some extra time :)

It starts in (11-18-53) and funnily enough somewhere in the middle
we hit a couple of guys who have a year 2055 problem since they reply
to a message from (04-NOV-54) and their time stamp is from
2052! not the only time this happens. The NOV date is about the
latest posting in the book AFAIK.

> * London Sourcebook: I don't own it, so I can't add it to the list.

1-NOV-51 to 14-JUN-52 (a more realistic spread of dates I think)

> * Street Samurai Catalog: what are the dates in the 2nd edition?

10-07-50 to 01-02-51 (second ed has the same dates I guess)

> * Tir na nOg: as for London SB.

11-NOV 53 to 21-NOV 54

I didn't check very carefully, but I think this is fairly close to
the mark.

Darn, didn't check to carefully I see now, updated dates follow:

> > * Germany Sourcebook: as I only have the German version I

Last one is 29-DEC-54 a sysop addendum in which (s)he explains that
he changed the date stamps. The first one is a mess, I think the only
realistic starting date is 11-18-53, but there are two groups of
messages from 3-NOV-52. But they don't make any sense since they
added their comments a full year before the others did, plus they are
listed behind messages from 54.

> > * London Sourcebook: I don't own it, so I can't add it to the list.

Well since in the beginning two sysop dudes both open and close the
file the dates must be between
1-NOV-51 and 7-AUG-52
there are later and earlier dates in the book as Alfredo mentioned
but they don't make any sense.

> > * Street Samurai Catalog: what are the dates in the 2nd edition?

At least I got those two right :)

BTW am I the only one who thinks that those dates are a bit strange?
There are people that are replying a year later (talk about sloppy
e-mail management) and in general there are weeks and months going by
without anyone saying anything. If current day e-mail lists are even
slightly comparable most comments would be made in the first week
after publication and then some more dripping in in the first month,
but after that its probably over.
There are some funny examples of low-lifes in the books, people who
wait months for a comment and then reply within five minutes. I can
just see them with seven frames active to spot someone's name popping
up so they can slag him :).

Okay, it looks like I now have all the dates. Thanks to everyone
involved, and I'll add them to the file ASAP.

In that case I assume they're typos. This happens in a few other
books as well (look at the first page of the opening chapter in
Fields of Fire for an example).

The explanation is really simple: the book's author typed
whatever date looked good at the time :)

Unless the text is posted over a longer period of time, like a
chapter today, another one in three weeks time, and so on. That
could cause people to take another look at a file the've already
added their comments to, and spot replies to which they feel the
need to reply themselves.

What, like Wolfman and The Smiling Bandit? :)

Well yeah, that's one of the best examples, or the Smiling Bandit and
KAM. I was happy to see that the Bandit is still alive in T:SH. Of
course he was talking about a Universal Omnitech invention, and I
think I know how he got his info..

but there's the one in the Germany book where Krupp is making some
kinda racist comment on p. 127 and a year later Sigmund replies that
he has been looking for him and threatens to kill him. No wonder he
couldn't find him before if it takes him a year to spot a comment...
And of course Whisper and Steel Lynx in FoF.
