liked a complicated system, or maybe I should say "larger rules base". The
others in my group really liked having me around but had no real Idea what
they heck I was doing. I have always imagined it would be like that for the
SR characters. Or to quote from one gaming session, "Less
techno-garbage-talk and more doing what the frag you do deckboy!"
That being said, I recognized the problem with deckers. I was not about to
make my group sit around and wait. My GM and I dealt with it a different
way. First off my decker was a combat decker, so he always went along.
Second I created the matrix systems for my GM. He would give me some
direction and then he would give final design approval. It can be done if
everyone plays fair. Then before the gaming session my GM and I would run
the system. Usually I would end up with a file named Paydata. Then during
the normal gaming session when it came time to jack in, my GM would hand me
a paper with the file contents on it. (Assuming I had been successful) No
muss no fuss.... and no waiting.
It worked well for us. It may seem like cheating with me designing the
system and then running against it, but only if you forget to roleplay.
