and GM since it came out. Formerly, on GMAST-L I posted several plot and
setting ideas (including a large file describing New York city in 2050).
and would like to start here by posting a little plot idea that I like to use
during the first gaming session to introduce players to a campaign.
I call it "the Package"
Basically, A fairly young (and somewhat green) Mr. Johnson approaches
the players with an easy courier mission. They are to take a briefcase, place
it in a train station locker, and wait for someone to approach them with a
code phrase. They are to give this person the locker key and be on their way.
The players are given a time and place, but not a description of their contact
(if they ask the Mr. Johnson will tell them he can't give out a description fo
r security reasons, but he really doesn't know either) Since the Mr J is
fairly new at this, the code phrase he will give the players should be somethi
ng common.
At the site, the PC's will be approached by a drunken squatter, who
happens to say the code phrase. if the PC's give him the key, they will be
approached by the real contact a few minutes later, in time to see the
squatter get on a train/bus/whatever with the briefcase.
What happens from here on is up to the PC's. They can choose not to
believe the real contact, or chase down the squatter, or just get the hell out
etc... You can put whatever you like in the briefcase, especially something
that may lead the PC's into some deep plot involving insider trading/organized
crime/whatever. The adventure is fully free-form (the runners may even decide
to keep the briefcase and to hell with the job) Whatever the players do,
respond appropriately, and try to extend the plot as far as possible. With all
the possibilities this plot can offer, it is a good starting point for many
campaigns.
