Egil Geir Brautaset (egilbra@***.unit.no) asked:

> So enlighten us! Where/what is Holland then?

The country's name is the Netherlands (officially it's called Koninkrijk
der Nederlanden [Kingdom of the Netherlands]), and it is divided into
twelve provinces:

1) Drente
2) Flevoland
3) Friesland
4) Gelderland
5) Groningen
6) Limburg
7) Noord Brabant
8) Noord Holland [North Holland]
9) Overijssel
10) Utrecht
11) Zeeland
12) Zuid Holland [South Holland]

As you can see, there are two provinces called Holland, and ten other
provinces with other names. The two Hollands are in the northwest and
west of the country.
Utrecht (where, if I understand correctly, Hearn.nic.Surfnet.nl is
located) is a province, with the city Utrecht as its capitol.

I live in Zeeland (which is to the south of Zuid Holland), and even
though most people don't mind being told they come from "Holland" when
they don't, I do. I think it's like telling a Welshman he's from England.

Hope this clarifies matters a bit :+)

Thanks for the info, Gurth. I'd wondered a bit, though a National
Geographic thing a number of years ago explained most of it to me.
(And just imagine, this all got started because I was idly curious
about where HEARN was located! Not as if the location of a virtual site
really makes any difference...I just wondered what the .nl meant!)

P.S.: Thanks to Gurth, we're all just a little bit richer. Wow.
